Why not get Watson if that's the case?

Probably because Houston wants to do all they can to keep him and has rebuffed all proposals

Yea. And Pace clearly isn't going to wait out the market.

Yeah that's my biggest issue with this. Superbowl hasn't even been played yet. A month + til the league year opens. Wait to see if Watson, Carr, Dak, someone decent you don't have to trade draft picks for becomes available. If you can't get one of those guys, then if nobody else trades for Wentz, you have a 3-day window where the Eagles are pretty desperate or else they owe Wentz his 10Mil bonus. If someone else trades for Wentz in the meantime, the worst thing that happens is you have all your draft picks, whatever cap space you've created, and aren't counting on the league's worst QB in 2020. Not the end of the world.

Exactly, the Eagles are on the hook for $10,000,000 there's no need to overpay, wait them out. Of course, Pace being Pace, he'll probably trade the 20th pick along with next year' first, he's going to make the worst possible trade, that horsefeathers.

I can't wait to find out that no one even pursued Wentz and a team like Indy gets a better QB in Carr w/out giving up a 1st.

But Pace is still learning and like McCaskey, I'll give him some time.

Thought along the same lines, Carr will be had for less, could have been a Bear but, for Pace. As mathematicians say - probability of almost 1 this happens.

Ok guys, chill out a bit. Nobody's getting Carr without giving up a 1st and at least another top 100 pick. We don't even know for sure that Wentz will be an overpay. There will be plenty of time to complain about this trade after it actually happens.

How exactly do they set the salary cap?

Based on league revenue. I believe the salary cap is 50% of the total league revenue. So, 180M X 32 teams = 1/2 of the money made by the league. Players get half, owners pocket the other half split evenly.

That's generally the gist I think, but I think they play some games with it with the goal to make actual cash as close to the end revenue split as possible. And I think they're playing extra games this year to smooth the effect of covid revenue dips.

Yeah I think there’s some future cash flow projections that are involved. It’s why the NBA kept the cap “artificially” high this year because the actual revenue last year and projections moving forward didn’t dictate the cap to be where it is based off actuals.

I definitely used hyperbole. However, I've brought as many successful QBs to Chicago as Pace has.

It is a significant red flag if you're willing to make the 1st splash when your 1st choice isn't among the top 3 of avail. QBs.

Never mind apparently you can win with an aging roster and someone else's QB. Pace proven genius

Tampa's best defensive players aren't really that old.

This would be like adding a future HOF QB to the 2018 Bears, but with a better offensive line.

Me as well, Wentz is actually an improvement, the Bears actually have a better OL and offensive weapons than the Eagles. Last night showed it clearly doesn't matter who is playing QB when your line can't block. So, with an uptick in line play and someone to throw to, Wentz, if dealt to the Bears, will probably bounce back from 2020. But the issue remains whatever Pace does he'll quite probably over pay.

I don’t think the issue for anyone is Wentz in and of himself. The Bears need someone the play QB next year and he certainly isn’t the worst option.

The question is the cost to get him in cap space and draft capital. There’s a trade for Wentz that makes sense. It’s just that most of us have zero faith in Pace to be able to pull it off and pretty much every news leak and/or baseless speculative tweet on possible packages confirms our fears.

Nitpicky point, but the random leaks in lying season don't confirm anything.

I agree that the suggested trades are not good, from a Bears perspective, but the devil is in the details. Even if they do something like trade their 2022 1st (on the surface a horrible idea), maybe they're getting back the Eagles 2nd, which makes a good bit of sense from a value standpoint.

If the Eagles are giving a 2nd this year and getting a 1st next year that's a steal for the Bears at that point, especially if they take Foles also. I'm guessing if the Eagles are giving a 2nd, it would be a 3rd this year going from the Bears as well as a 2022 1st. But in general, if the Bears don't have a net loss of a top 3 pick this year and lose just 1 next year, I'll take that in most scenarios.

Drag it out till the roster bonus deadline.

Sweet Jesus those are some Prince Charles-level ears.

Also, I have full faith Pace will find a way to horsefeathers this up, either through grossly overpaying for Wentz or through failing to acquire anyone meaningful and going into 2021 with Foles and an overdrafted QB at 20 in an open competition for QB in training camp.

Bears promoted John DeFilippo to passing game coordinator, as well as current role as QB coach.

I thought last year's set-up, with a QB coach, passing game coordinator, offensive coordinator and head coach with an offensive focus, was a bit much. Hard to tell if this is about no good coaches wanting to join the Bears in a lame duck situation, or just streamlining that work.

Of course he was Wentz' QB coach during his most successful time in Philadelphia.
