jag or not, he put up over 1k rushing and 1500 total yfs, and he's 23 meaning he likely should hover around those numbers for 5-6 more years barring injury. Sure, if you can draft a Cook you do so, but RB is far from a need right now

lol come on man

He might have a career year in 2021, but I don't see much upside from here and then you're looking at another year or two after that before a decline. Unless you see another gear, this isn't a guy you're going to want to give a big 2nd contract to, unless you hit on a homerun in the draft that can supplement for cheap and structure the contract to get out 1 or 2 years in.

I mean, if he isn't pushing close to those numbers next year, you start looking for his replacement sure. But I don't see the definitive reason he wont

You said 5-6 more years. Nobody counts on a RB beyond the season they're about to play, at the most. 5-6 years total would be a successful career, and he's already finished 2. And that is after a three year college career with with 700 touches.

I'm not arguing he is set for 5-6 years, I'm saying he should be able to keep up the production barring injury. Obviously, there is no guarantee.

eta: maybe not "likley" as I did say

I understand the view that RB's never last, and that DM likley had a career year with nothing but decline from here out, but its also possible (on the rosey side) that he could have a successful career.

I can be guilty of being the optimist.

Who is Pettine knocking boots with in this scenario?

VIrginia?

This past year was also just not that special either. Sure there's some value to being able to carry a heavy workload with average efficiency like he did. And he's not a one trick pony, he can do a little bit of everything. But... yea I don't see him as a second contract guy. So he has two useful years left IMO. You could wait til 2022 draft, but I'd keep an eye out for the next JAG.

But how many teammates showed up to his birthday party?

Dream scenario-19 teams pass on Wilson citing his leadership, etc. problems, falls into the Bears lap. Bears take a chance on the potential locker room cancer and Wilson becomes the first franchise QB in modern Bears history, kicking GB ass along the way while ridiculing them. For once the Bears get to make the rest of the NFL look like horsefeathering idiots.

If he makes it past 8, trade up to get him. Hell, if he gets past the Jets, I'd trade a pair of 1sts and a 3rd to move up for him over trading 2 firsts for Derek Carr.

Do not think he'll make past the Jets but, stranger things have happened.

This is a nifty article on him from a month ago brings up some interesting points. It sounds like he's the reserved type who spends a lot of time studying film and isn't particularly outspoken. It also sounds like BYU was desperate for a QB and didn't bother recruiting him until they were pretty much forced to do so, which tells me they knew he was really talented, but they had concerns about how he'd fit with BYU overall.

Frankly, I don't think character issues in QBs should be much of a concern. There are and have been numerous successful QBs who are complete weirdos, jackoffs, sexual predators, bigots, and outright idiots. If this causes Wilson to drop into the Bears' lap, awesome, but it's wholly unjustified unless Wilson is doing something like shooting heroin into his forehead during interviews.

JJ Watt is available

The Bears need more old DE.

Watt would be fun with this defense. The problem is with Mack, Quinn, Hicks and Goldman....adding Watt would be about 75M in cap going to the front 5 of the defense. But if they could trade Hicks, and sign Watt for a small cap hit in 2021, it would be a move I would like. Watt does have the ability to rush from the edge if Quinn can't turn it around. Although, I just saw Vita Vea dominate rushing from the edge in the Superbowl so maybe they could get similar from putting Hicks outside at times.

I just want Pace to do what's best for the team.
