I swore I’d never watch another injury replay after Theismann’s. I went back on my word to see Willis McGahee’s knee go the wrong direction. I have held firm since.

I just watched the footage. It might not be as bad as everyone assumes. (Stress might). It could be as simple as a dislocation and a boat load of sprains. Prob done for the season tho.

 

Yeah, it helps that it's an ankle and not a leg or knee. I'm hoping he's good to go by camp next year. Normal dislocation looking at 10-12 weeks. Anything more and possibly a year or more.

Had a conversation with a football superfan today and he was pointing out how odd it is that the league is taking such preccautions about COVID and yet they practically ignore continuing issues with concussions and long term brain damage. He was using it as an argument that they're being overcautious about COVID, where I feel like the hypocrisy errs in the other direction.

 

Tackle football is fundamentally broken as a sport, and I don't know that there's a good way to salvage it while doing proper prevention of long term damage to players.

There was some dude from the Devil Rays who broke his arm while delivering a pitch that was the nastiest baseball injury I can recall. Jason Kendall had a ghastly one too that he suffered sliding into home. I think his foot was almost facing 180.

I am so happy Carolina got Matt Rhule. A remade roster with essentially no off-season and the only legitimately excellent player has been gone 60% of the season. By all rights this team should be getting smoked every week and instead they're in first place.

I was in gymnastics in high school and one of the high bar guys missed the mat on his dismount and snapped his femur. It tore straight through the pants and there was blood everywhere.

 

They made us continue for the rest of the meet.

 

The school we were at didn't have extra mats, so they just flipped over the ones with the blood.

 

So that was fun.

I was running a middle school wrestling camp when I was in college, and a kid dislocated his elbow. I tried my best to act like it was no big deal while we waited for the ambulance, but it sure as hell looked like his arm was snapped in half. I think I played it off effectively.

Zimmer is an idiot. Should've gone for two to put them up by 6. If he misses the 2-pt conversion, there's really no difference between being up by 4 or 5. A TD still beats you. And then it would've made the 4th down call easy -go for the FG and be up 7 or 9. But that jacka$s made the wrong decision twice and it cost his team the game.

That’s not to say they shouldn’t have gone for 2 earlier though. I get you want to kill the game if you have the chance but the ability to not just lose in regulation seems valuable.

Has a team ever hired a head coach mid-season that was already employed with another team? Is that even allowed? The Falcons and Texans have to be the leading candidates to go after Eric Bienemy, and if either could make a move now, I think that'd put either in a good place for next year.

 

And he didn’t even last the night. GM got canned also.

Agree with you 100%! My point about going for two was that it would’ve made the subsequent 4th down decision easier. He fucked up the two point conversion but was given a chance to redeem himself after the Vikings interception. And then instead of taking the FG to go up by a TD and 2pt conversion, he made another dumb decision y not taking the points.

 

Minnesota should’ve won but deserved to lose.

COVID precautions are more in place for those who aren’t playing football and at risk of serious complications or death. It’s one thing to give another dude a concussion; it’s another to give him a virus that can show no symptoms that puts his asthmatic wife in the hospital.

It is valuable, but so is 1) the chance to end the game right there, which is a pretty good one and 2) the field position difference witch is especially significant with that amount of time left.

 

It's a wash math wise, it's pretty much personal preference.

As for the Dak contract, I feel like people tend to take sides one way or the other, and I'm not sure that's warranted here. Dallas by all accounts offered him a very good deal. He was well within his rights to want an even better one and he was prepared to take some risk in order to get it.

 

I feel sad for him for the timing when he got hurt, but I don't feel he was cheated. And thankfully from what I heard about his injury today, it should be something that still lands him a good long-term contract. He might not be quite the same guy next year, but he should get back to full health eventually.
