Heyman just tweeted the Mets traded for Keon Broxton.

Did the Brewers get DeGrom? Oh never mind this isn’t the Marlins.

Brach is still out there - chin up.

Speaking of which, our favorite Twitter “source” is at it again —

Multiple relievers I'm hearing the #Cubs have had recent discussions with. Kelvin Herrera, Brad Brach, and Oliver Perez. #HotStove

Regardless of the stupid cat. Oliver Perez would be kind of interesting.... he was better than both Miller and Britton last year and he would definitely be cheaper. Perez and Allen as additions to the pen wouldn't be the worst moves.

Allen is probably my realistic upside hope for this hemorrhoid of an offseason, though I've seen no reports actually indicating the Cubs are interested.

Yeah I really like the Perez idea. He was all around fantastic last year, and at bare minimum he'll be tough on lefties forever. Plus at his age he should only be in line for a one tear deal.

So, who the horsefeathers is going to close until Morrow is healthy?

Strop

Relying on Strop, Cishek, Edwards, and a usually hurt Morrow for the back end of the bullpen doesn't give me a lot of confidence. Thanks PTR!!!

I agree we need to add a guy or two. But depending on Strop shouldn’t be a concern, he’s been one of the better and most consistent/reliable RPs in baseball for a while now. If Cishek doesn’t have to pitch 140 innings this year he should be fine too. Ideally, yes, they are somewhere between our 4th best RP options than top 2, but to act like Strop doesn’t give you confidence is wrong. IMO.

I wasn't specifically referring to Strop, but the bullpen as a whole. An injury to any of those guys and the Cubs could be up horsefeathers's creek.

You could say that about any bullpens top 4 options. Now I know we are already at a little more risk since Morrow is likely missing time to begin the year and Carl was off towards the end. But it’s not like it’s a unique situation for the Cubs that they’d be in a not ideal spot if their top bullpen options aren’t healthy or performing. I’m still hopeful we will add a decent FA/trade RP and one of the Iowa shuttle guys proves to be decent.

The new Mets GM was previously Lowrie's agent for years so that explains that. Though I'm not sure where he plays. Frazier at 3B, Rosario at SS, Cano at 2B, one of Dom Smith, Peter Alonso, Jeff McNeil at 1B and then when one of the young guys take over full time, McNeil basically becomes the utility guy there. Oh and they just got JD Davis too for the utility/backup 1B and 3B role.

So they have two spots for Torres, Grigorious, Tulo and LeMahieu. Trade coming?

Tulo is no lock to he healthy a whole year and Didi may miss most of the season. Torres at short, DJ at 2B, Tulo backs both up if healthy/gets some DH at bats

Didi might not be back at all this year. It’s Tulo/Torres have SS, DJ/Torres have 2B, Andujar/DJ 3B and both them could play some 1B. It’s not that crowded, especially since Tulo hasn’t played in 2 years and they also have a DH spot every game.
