Doesn't Bailey make a ton of money?

Yeah but I don't think he will be for much longer

Edit: FA after 2020

More like after next season. There is a mutual option for 2020 that won't be picked up by the Dodgers, who will buy him out for $5 million.

The Dodgers and Reds are “finalizing a significant trade,” according to Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports (Twitter link). Details are not known, but it’s believed to involve “multiple Major League pieces.”

Guessing it's Puig to the Reds, giving the Dodgers money for Harper.

SIGH.

Puig, Kemp and Alex Wood

Seriously trying to figure out what cincy is doing with this move... this doesn’t move the needle that much for them does it? Can’t see them any better than third, and that’s with everything breaking right for them. How much salary does this actually save them?

Enough to trade for Kluber or try to sign Kuechel?

This *costs* Cincy quite a bit of money for 2019.

How long is Kemp’s deal?

How do the Dodgers keep finding ways to dump bad contracts and payroll? We can't seem to do it.

Well, to be fair, the three players the Dodgers traded have some intrinsic value, while the players we would like to unload are extremely bad.

Even if this is a salary dump, I'm surprised not to hear more substantial names other than Bailey because Puig and Wood are both very valuable players.

Yeah the return seems light for the Dodgers. I think one of these things is at play here:

- The Dodgers made a trade that is kinda bad in a vacuum but they don't care because it lets them sign Machado/Harper

- Wood and Puig had less value than you'd think. Puig because of off the field stuff and Wood because he always wears down and turns into a pumpkin late in the year

- Someone, whether it's the Dodgers or another team they're trading with (say for Kluber or Realmuto), really likes these specific prospects

Puig and Wood aren’t “very valuable” get the hell out of here. They’re okay players. I’d liken Puig to Zobrist and Wood to Monty in terms of trade value.

And Homer Bailey is straight up awful. I'll take em.

They're both 3 win players. They're not "stars" but they're really solid players. Wood would be a 5 win pitcher if he was able to make 32 stars.

Puig has been worth 3 wins or more once since 2014 (technically 2.9) and has been under 2 more times than not. Alex Wood clearly hasn’t shown an ability to stay healthy at all, so that’s just projecting something that isn’t probable at all.

Dodgers already cut Bailey, so this trade is getting weirder and weirder

I’m guessing if the Reds were gonna take on 20+ mil in salary they were going to insist on dumping baileys contract. LAD still save over $20m and Cincinnati turns $25 million worth of worthless player in $45 million of players that actually have worth. Dodgers accepted the trade because it was their best opportunity to clear up significant payroll even if it meant taking a worthless high salary player back and immediately cutting them. Though I guess they could have at least brought him into camp and see if their coaches could do anything with him.

Nelson Cruz to the Twins

I was 100% sure Tampa was going to sign him.

I think Tampa was pretty sure they were gonna sign him too. I wonder what they do now.

On the flip side, the Twins have a sneaky good offense now, after getting him and Cron and Schoop. If they manage to piece together a passable bullpen, they have a playoff shot.

It sucks that they will probably go cheap now and just roll a Lowe/Robertson/Choi/Diaz DH and platoon extravaganza.
