And here I thought his last moment would have been walking off Wrigley Field after basically completing the Cardinals collapse and ensuring their elimination. Ah well...always next year. Just kidding, there's no way he'll make that far.

I though teams and players couldn't discuss money until Friday? Or does it not matter for him because he didn't have a team last year?

MLB Radio said he can sign now because he was a minor league and not major league FA

Not sure where its best to put this so I'll put it here. Grant Brisbee wrote about the top 50 Free Agents this year. Posting because...Grant Brisbee

49. Bud Norris

He’s on this list because of the saves, but I’ll be honest with you, the sooner I finish, the sooner I can play Red Dead Redemption 2 for the first time, so, uh, Bud Norris, everyone! He’s the Bud Norriest. He’s probably fine.

Well, maybe not fine in the clubhouse. He’s ranked 49th, OK, this all checks out.

Kind of surprised by both sides on this. Would’ve figured he’d want more years and overall money and the Dodgers would want a lower AAV if they did an extension (something like 5/135).

8:58pm: The Rays and Mariners are in agreement on the trade, tweets Ken Rosenthal of The Athletic. The agreement is still pending medical reviews, so nothing is official just yet.

8:23pm: The Mariners and Rays are closing in on a trade that would send catcher Mike Zunino and outfielder Guillermo Heredia to Tampa Bay in exchange for outfielder Mallex Smith, reports Ryan Divish of the Seattle Times. The Rays could include an additional lower-level prospect in the deal, Divish adds.

Well, I said a Zunino for Cron deal sounded about right for the Mariners the other day. Almost.

It should be good for Zunino to get away from that organization.

I’d have given long and hard thought to trading Almora for Zunino

Oh yeah. If we could’ve gotten Pazos back in it too with some other stuff going back (the always mentioned Vic, Maples, Short, etc type crowd) I definitely would’ve done it.

I still like Pazos as a target a lot, even more than Miller or Britton when considering cost. I’d do Almora and Kintzler for him all day.

If they were to add anyone with some velocity and the ability to pitch in the MLs next year, then this idea moves from “hmm” to something you do very quickly

Agreed with you on Pazos. Liked him with the Yankees and believe he refined himself well with the Mariners. Big physical LH in the mold of Justin Wilson but better athlete and more potential for strong fastball command

Yeah, since they got Mallex for CF and now don't have a catcher, I wonder if we could swing some kind of Caratini and prospect for Pazos/Dee Gordon.

Gordon is Juan Pierre 2.0, no horsefeathering thank you. He also makes ~$25 million the next two years

Yeah but he actually plays pretty solid defense at multiple positions. I'd also assume the Mariners would pay down his salary to move him.

Or take Chatwood back.

Yeah, if our goal is to a bad contract swap with Chatwood, Gordon's a good fit. Money's essentially the same, seemed to be a passable backup at SS last year, and has the speed and contact you like to have in a bench guy.

The other problem with Gordon is Joe would lead him off anytime he started because “he’s fast and slaps the ball around and that’s what a leadoff hitter is and does” even though he walked 9 times last year (BB% under 2%) and Almora has a higher career OBP than him.
