The other problem with Gordon is Joe would lead him off anytime he started because “he’s fast and slaps the ball around and that’s what a leadoff hitter is and does” even though he walked 9 times last year (BB% under 2%) and Almora has a higher career OBP than him.

Hasnt join been the opposite of that approach when it comes to leadoff.

Almora and Murphy lead off a combined 76 times, he runs out sub optimal guys there a lot.

$17M for a 32-year old starting pitcher who hasn’t topped 130 innings in any of the last 6 seasons seems a bit steep.

He was really good for them this year once he got healthy. But yeah, glad they got stuck with that LT hit and it’s smart he took that deal. He probably would have had a hard time getting even Chatwood’s deal with the draft pick attached.

2/10 for Suzuki seems a bit rich for a not quite full time starting C but better than a backup C type guy who’s 35 and even though he’s had two back to back 2 WAR years he pretty much netted 0 WAR the previous 2 years before that and has more sub 1 WAR seasons the last 7 years than over 1 WAR years. He’s also not considered especially good defensively/framing, iirc.

As fun as Seal Boy is, Dietrich and Spangenberg are both way more useful on the roster and could be had for basically nothing now. We were rumored to be talking to the Marlins about a Dietrich trade over the summer.

Since La Stella pulled that whole "I'm in Chicago or nothing" a couple years ago, maybe he could be convinced to just retire and be a bench coach.
