Greenberg’s next reply tweet was how the Ricketts are awarding themselves the first annual Joe Ricketts award for outstanding achievement in the field of excellence.

How tone deaf are these bozos? Cry poor, sell off all their talent, push to build a sportsbook, and now hold a party to celebrate their self-perceived awesomeness including a plaque while their team is 2-18 in their last 20 games.

Hadn't thought about that in a while, I'm glad that story seems optimistic about her future

“Her anti-seizure medication has been gradually reduced over the last two years and so she has been seizure-free for 22 months.

"We anticipate she will continue to improve and they can continue to reduce the anti-seizure medications. She seems to be doing well. The family is obviously very hopeful about the future.”

Not only that, but they got the designation for the tax breaks and for no other reason.

what? they only get tax exemption if they are a non-profit historical preservation corporation, I dont think they are that.

maybe the City gave them some tax breaks, but the City gives lots of orgs tax breaks on their buildings

They get all kinds of tax breaks on Wrigley due to its designaiton.

IIRC the city/Tunney put the team through a bunch of unnecessary nonsense because of similar landmark/historical status at the start of the renovations so this type of thing isn't without its downsides, but it seems clear they get a financial benefit from that particular landmark distinction.

they got tax credits on the money they spent for the work they did on Wrigley, that makes more sense. They dont carry over the tax credits to their additional expenditures, ie just because they did a solid reno on Wrigley doesn't mean they get credits on other money they earn/spend.

There are lots of reasons to hate the Ricketts, but this isnt one of them imo. Its a standard way to promote historical renos.

lol, so the Cubs announced their team HOF inductees. Apparently they are all from the previous Cubs team HOF from the 80s (41 players), or the Cubs Walk of Fame from the 90s (9 players)

So who was in that 90s Walk of Fame? Well there were actually 11 players inducted in the walk of fame according to this:

Cap Anson

Ernie Banks

Jack Brickhouse

Harry Caray

Andre Dawson

Ferguson Jenkins

Yosh Kawano

Ryne Sandberg

Ron Santo

Sammy Sosa

Hack Wilson

Can you guys the 2 players who were in the Cubs Walk of Fame who are not in this new Hall of Fame?

I'll give you a hint, one time is a noted bigot and racist, and the other is the franchise leader in HRs.

Link to the inductees:

Also listed is Bill Wrigley who owned the team from the glory years of 1977 to 1981. Can’t possibly figure out why they would want to honor such an unremarkable owner.

to make it look better when the '22 class is

Joe Ricketts

Tom Ricketts

Pete Ricketts

Laura Ricketts

the other brother that I don't want to look up Ricketts

I'm guessing he was inducted into the 80's HOF, which started right after he sold the team to the Tribune Co. Probably as a way to honor the original ownership when the sale was still fresh in people's minds. Though I guess if the Ricketts can remove Sammy Sosa and Cap Anson why choose to keep that bozo in the HOF? Probably because the Wrigley family were/are historically big donors to Republican causes

The Cubs organization's full on canceling of Sammy Sosa is something to behold

It's unbelievable. It's not like Sammy has to go to the park and get honored. You are just saying 'this dude did something significant for the Cubs and we are recognizing it with a plaque'. Every time Tom is asked about Sammy in an interview he has an angry tone in his voice like Sammy personally harmed him. He's never going to admit to doing steroids, but we know he did them and he knows we know he did them. He apologized for walking out on the team. Just horsefeathering move on and recognize someone who was a big part of a generation of Cubs baseball.

I know almost everyone on this board hates Mark Grace, but how does Bill Buckner make the Cubs' HOF over him? Grace had a higher OPS by over 50 points, did it over a longer period of time, and was also a better defender.

probably fewer sexual assaults and DUI

but also Grace publicly criticized the Cubs after he left and that was around the time Tom was having his heart ripped out by Sosa apparently, so maybe he just has a bad taste for that entire timeframe of players. Given the timing and their respective ages, could be Grace stole Tom's girl too

The only people inducted this first year are Cubs HOFers, those honored with the previous Cubs HOF in the 80s and those honored in the Cubs walk of fame in the 90s. They will do inductions every year for players not on that list

The ricketts snubbing Sammy angers me more than just about anything they’ve ever done. Who the horsefeathers are they to pass judgement on anyone? :middle finger

Sammy was everything to me when it came to baseball in the late 1990s. I would cheer for a home run over a win during some of those years because we sucked.

But I will admit that over the years I've sort of soured on him. I don't like that he lies about not taking steroids. I don't like that most teammates seemed to hate him. I don't like that I get Starlin Castro vibes, that something just isn't right about him. It's probably because he was accused of beating his first wife.

I don't think Sosa's accomplishments should be totally ignored, but I'm not sure I care how much he is celebrated these days.

This, I understand Sosa is a polarizing figure, but if there's a Cubs HoF, he is a no-brainer. Seriously, the Rickets are such douchebags.
