Woody 20 K game on ESPN right now.

I've enjoyed watching these old games.

But holy crap is Chip Caray bad! I don't recall him being as awful as he truly was.

Joe Carter made Caray look good. Caray with Stone at the end of their run (when they would trash the team espec Alou) was fun.

That was a rough era for Cubs TV broadcasters.

Anyone watching Game 7 right now? Contreras just doubled to make it 3-1.

Yeah, I'm watching it and the quick hook on Hendricks still pisses me off. The bad call from the ump on a clear strike 3 before Maddon pulls Hendricks also pisses me off...

We came so close to blowing this lead lol. I used to defend him, but I'm so glad Maddon is gone now.

Lester came in and was dominant. Ross is the guy you should be mad at.

Nothing really revelatory in here. They talk about the farm system and the changes in player development. They mention the D'backs as a team the Cubs could emulate that is both competing and rebuilding the farm at the same time. The D'backs have traded some good players to bolster their farm system so it's not a totally accurate comparison.

Latest Forbes report says Cubs are worth $3.2 Billion, not a bad return on spending $845 million in 2009. So why did we have to sit out this offseason free agency?

There are many ways to answer your question, but the $3.2B figure isn't the best. It's not a "return," it's a valuation.

A simplified example is you buy a house for $100k. You do some renovations for $20k over a 10 year period. Over that timeframe, the real estate market heats up and the neighborhood becomes more valuable. Today, a real estate agent tells you that the house is worth $150k. This fact alone doesn't change your income or cash position.

House Rich

Cash Poor

I'm half way there!

If PTR would do us a favor and sell high, he wouldn't be poor any longer and then we could feel more comfortable rooting for the Cubs again.

What makes you think the next billionaire would be better?

What makes you think the next billionaire would be better?

It's damn hard to be worse than the Ricketts... The Koch brothers and Rupert Murdock are definitely worse. The Kushner family. The Sackler family.

I'm pretty sure the next owners will be better than the current POS owners we have right now... I mean I don't love silicon valley technocrats, but they're infinitely better than the evil, rich Republican billionaire assholes we have to deal with.

If you think massive asset appreciation doesn't tangibly/positively impact present-day "cash" position, or whatever one wants to call it, I don't know what to say. Every wealthy person I know would laugh at that proposition.

I was listening to the radio broadcast of World Series Game 5 on The Score. Picked it up in the 2nd inning. Game 7 should be on Friday night.

This is lame. Happ ruining our "he kills people for fun" trope by exposing himself as a nice normal cool guy. Pretty brave of Nico and company to take the invite!

At least we still have the time that a magazine scientifically proved how tiny Rizzo's face is.
