That was a horsefeathering horrible documentary. Other than for nostalgia purposes of seeing the highlights and going back to that summer there was nothing to like.

Didn’t need all the self righteous, sanctimonious broadcasters/media old guys involved, would’ve liked to have heard from more players. Also didn’t need to hear from the horsefeathering grounds keeper multiple times, or about how Cardinals fans judge fly balls better and the other nonsense. They completely glossed over Kerry Wood and Sammy carrying a very average Cubs team to a playoff birth and just not as much Sammy/Cubs stuff as I expected. Also the screen cuts with modern day crowd shots but showing 98 highlights was, ummm, odd and cheap.

Watching this really did make me miss baseball though.

that's literally the only reason I would ever watch a movie about the home run chase

I don’t mind them not spending a lot of time talking about the Cubs playoff race, after all this was about the HR race. But if you are trying to tell us how these players felt and what they were dealing with during the year, then yeah there should have been more talk about how Sosa also carried the pressure of balancing trying to get the Cubs into the playoffs with the HR record.

Overall yeah the doc was pretty mediocre. Maybe it was more interesting for someone too young to remember the HR race but it didn’t do a whole lot for me.

I agree, it was pretty mediocre. We were spoiled by The Lat Dance. We’re Ray Langford and Steve Trachsel really the only two players they interviewed?

friendly reminder that sammy had seasons of 66, 63, and 64 home runs in a 4 year span

Only player to hit 60+ in three seasons at the time, did Bonds end up doing it too?

He didn't, Sammy remains alone.

My favorite footnote to that fact is that the only time he actually led MLB in home runs was 2000, when he hit 50.

Bonds only hit 50+ in one season

having 762 total home runs while only hitting 50 once is unfathomable. maintaining just like 5 years of sustained excellence in this sport is extremely tough. to average 35 homers over a 22 year stretch doesn't seem possible.

Which makes Hank Aaron even more impressive. He averaged 37 HR/year over 22 seasons* and only hit at least 40 in 8 seasons. And much of this during a dead ball era, let alone not the steroid era.

Edit: *average based on 162 games, but still.

I feel like Bonds could've pulled off 80 at some point of he'd been pitched to like just a regular superstar instead of an actual deity

And Aaron never hit 50 in a season either.

It's cool that team is on the list, but going down 3 game to 1 in the World Series doesn't feel "dominant" to me

it's cool that you totally understand, after all these years on this particular board, that the relative dominance and/or quality of a baseball team can be boiled down to 4 games. it is clear that you have read and learned a lot on here and probably don't spend your time horsefeathers and skimming past all the discussions.

We define "dominance" differently. That's ok, you don't have to be right all the time.

Were the 72 win Bulls that dominant? I mean they did lose 2 games in the Finals..

Look, I don't really care what happens to Addison Russell going forward, but this horsefeathers belongs in the Addison Russell thread or the KBO Chit-Chat thread or some other thread, but definitely not in here...

That horsefeathers is NOT on the Cubs anymore.
