as much as i disliked hendry the GM, i always thought he was a good dude so this gave me the warm and fuzzies a little

GMs get probably more credit and more hate than they deserve and Hendry got a lot of hate. And he does seem like a good guy. He didn't have the ownership Theo has but he also wasn't as good at the job. Classy of Theo to give him credit (also, an easy thing to do given that Theo is playing with house money already).

I was just going back over some roll up stats on the season and came across one that I didn't notice... Given how healthy the staff was, with only Lackey had a short-term DL stint, only Lester broke 200 innings (barely).

Joe clearly had a quick hook for Kyle at times this season, as he only hit 188 innings despite not missing a turn through the rotation. Given his success this season, does Joe give him a longer leash next year? Or does Joe manage him exactly the same...because it's hard to argue with the results Kyle obtained given how Joe was managing him? What's the over / under on innings? I'm going to guess he'll break 200, but barely, assuming he stays healthy.

He wasn't nearly as restricted on a per game basis as he was in 2015. The whole rotation was limited in total innings by design and while he didn't miss any turns through the rotation, the innings total was definitely affected by the 6 man rotation and skipping/pushing guys back when possible.

I don't think you'll see much limiting within games where PC isn't an issue, but you'll see the same strategy of limiting total innings on the season so guys have bullets left for the playoffs. It certainly worked out this year.

I think Jim Hendry did a bad job and wasn't and will never be a very good executive, but it does give me some warm fuzzies to know he was given credit for getting some of the talent (some very meaningful talent) that led to the World Series.

Didn't we just hire this guy during the season? Well, bye.gif

Cubs hired him Sept 2015.

Those effing ring chasing scouting dudes.

And they didn't even trade him for any chicken beer. THANKS, THEO.

This is the Diamondbacks we're talking about. We should be disappointed we didn't send this guy + Soler for Goldschmidt.

I was randomly going through B-R's play index to see who led various categories in Cubs postseason history, felt compelled to share:

HR: 4 tied at 5 (Rizzo, Bryant, Schwarber, Fowler)

RBI: Addison Russell (14)

Hits: Dexter Fowler (28)

Doubles: Dexter Fowler (7)

Walks: Sammy Sosa (13 - Bryant with 12)

HBP: Anthony Rizzo and Frank Chance (3)

K: Kris Bryant (33)

AB: Dexter Fowler (108)

Obviously counting stats are helped by WC, Division eras. Still cool to see. Also, pretty impressive for Sosa.

I met Steve Bartman's parents today. It was... odd.

How does that come up in conversation?

Them: "Are you happy that the Cubs won the world series?"

you: "Actually I'm a Cards fan"

Them: "Oh, then we are actually the parents of Steve Bartman, who provided the greatest moment in Cardinal's history"

you: "You're thinking of Sox fans"

You make it sound like you were Ace Ventura visiting Finkle's parents.

"Steve is such a good boy, he did what he was supposed to do. It was all that Moises Alou's fault."

I'm in sales in SWMO.

Warming them up they kept talking about being Cubs fans, lived in a NW suburb of Chicago {Northbrook maybe if that's place), and had a home in AZ and watched lots of Spring Training games. I know a horsefeathers ton of Cubs stuff from here (NSBB), so was asking him about the improvements to Wrigley, new ST park vs Hohokam, etc.

He tells me I seem to be a baseball historian, I tell him yes I suppose, and he says I must have noticed their last name. Told him of course, but didn't want to bring it up just in case , and he said "it's OK, Steven is our son."

They were all super happy with the Cubs WS win. His life is an on and off media hell. Checked up on them 2 days after I sold them and they said Steve had WSLR or something truck outside his house.

TL;DR - Huge Cubs fans and their boy got a bad deal. Neat meeting them though.
