if anything, to some extent, i'm going to enjoy the next several postseasons more in the sense that i won't be bordering on heart attack nervous now that the cherry has been popped.

no more, "yeah they are off to a good start but I'm not worried about them, it's the Cubs"

no more, "well maybe this year your guys will win it, but probably wait 'til next year, amirite?"

no more, "get back to me when they do something in October."

We'll spend this entire season cheering for the reigning world series champion, and that team will have a great chance of going just as far next year. This is the strutting down the runway with a ridiculous outfit that actually works time of our lives as Cubs fans. Last year was experiencing the ride, anticipating the glory and exploding with joy.

Now we enjoy ourselves.

no more "same old cubs" when something even a little bad shows signs of happening. this is my favorite one.

Is "Cobs" officially retired now?

This isn't even a hot take because it's really just a bad take, but is anyone else not really all that excited for next year?

I think I am even more excited for this season to start. I can't wait for the regular season where wins put me in a good mood for the rest of the day and losses put me in a slightly negative mood as opposed to the post-season where losses make me suicidal and wins help to stave of suicidal thoughts for one day. But as David mentioned, now the post-season will be a little easier to take as well knowing we just won.

I think if we ended up losing Game 7, I would feel worse about the regular season. I remember in the moments after the Davis home run, I never had the thought of "the cubs are going to do it to us again" like you heard a lot of people on the radio talk about. My immediate thoughts were "it is so hard to get to this point... you can be the best team and lose in the first round very easily. Now we are going to have to wait through an offseason, go through 6 months of a regular season just to hope to get a chance to get this far again when we had it right there this year." I think the regular season would have felt like a chore we just had to get through. Now it is going to be so enjoyable.

This isn't even a hot take because it's really just a bad take, but is anyone else not really all that excited for next year? I'm looking forward to the highlight videos and everything else, but I keep coming back to the fact that it is incredibly likely I just saw the greatest Cubs season I'm ever going to see, and I just can't see how 2017 can possibly stack up.

The less terrible side of me keeps saying I had a pretty great time watching the hawks in 2013 and 2015, but something about all the history the Cubs overcame makes this seem a bit different. I don't know...I'm sure this will last until the first walk off game (or really just watching the cardinals fans when we roll into town in April)

I was just thinking about this, but im the total opposite. Football sucks and basketball won't be interesting until the summer. Bring on baseball.

2016 will be the best season of your lifetime for historical significance alone. But without the pressure of finally getting to see a WS champ, and knowing we've got a great front office and a great core of young, fun players locked up for years to come, I'm super excited. Probably going back to spring training for the first time in a few years and going to find a way to see the Cubs on the west coast this season too. Let's get the season started already so we can kick some more ass.

I know I referenced the historical significance, but in terms of 'best season' it goes beyond that a little bit. Take away all the 108 years and everything else, would anyone bet on a more 'enjoyable' season happening again? I'd bet we don't hit 103 wins again with this core, as good as they are, just because it's really horsefeathering hard to win that many games. And then the playoffs...obviously going into it you'd want them over in 11 games, but with the way it worked out, it's hard to imagine getting any more cathartic enjoyment than what we just saw.

It was 7 months of almost uninterrupted bliss, save for a couple weeks in the middle of the year when we already have a bazillion game lead and then at the very end there.

I don't like having these thoughts either, and I know how much I'll enjoy the dominant years, just from watching the hawks and having that superior 'just watch, they've got another gear' feeling. It's just going to take a second to shift into that. I think part of it (and obviously this is good) is tied to the fact that they're so young. I still haven't quite wrapped my head around 'we have the best player in the national league playing third base for us for at least the next 5 years'. But I'll get there.

Sorry, this should probably go in the blasphemy thread, but had been bouncing around my head. Appreciate everyone reminding me how much there is to look forward to.

This is actually probably the most I've ever looked forward to the upcoming season; it cannot get here fast enough. That I can now root for this team as a "regular" baseball team (albeit as the defending champs) minus all of the previous baggage is something I never get tired of realizing.

Exactly. First day of the rest of your life type of thing. Whole new identity.

Not with you at all here. Recent articles notwithstanding, I want to make every other fanbase well and truly despise the Cubs. And it's going to take more than "awww, they finally won a championship...good for them" to do that.

Set new goals to make it more interesting for you. How about back to back championships...or hell, lets take aim at the Yankees three-peat from the late 90's. Best season you've ever seen? How about best 5 year period you've ever seen?

The nice thing now is that any failure to accomplish any of those goals is cushioned by having won the World Series.

What's the record for most consecutive division titles? Braves have it right? Let's break that.

Didn't think it was worth starting a Spring Training thread yet.... But if anyone is going down this year tickets go on sale Friday, if you have a MasterCard, or else Saturday for everyone else. FWIW

All of this. Plus we are really freaking good still. And we still have all of those awesome young players that were so fun to follow last year. And they are now World Series champions, and everyone else knows it, too. It's going to be amazing. And I can't wait.

One more thing that I forgot. I freaking love baseball because it is an awesome sport. I enjoy other sports but not like I do baseball, so I always miss baseball during the off-season. It can't come back soon enough.

Yes, baseball is the best, so even if the Cubs were trash I'd still be looking forward to the season. The Cubs are not trash, they are awesome, so I am even more excited.

i do think i favor baseball over the other sports i like (football and basketball) when all is equal (as far as how good my teams are), but i think it's primarily because a) baseball is in summer and summer makes me happy and b) baseball gives me 3 hours of entertainment nearly every day. i love that on most days i can look forward to getting home from work and having a game i'm emotionally invested in to watch. and for whatever reason, the volume of games doesn't water down my emotional investment vs. the other sports to any remotely proportional extent.

This is super random but I fell into a BR rabbit hole, and discovered that former Cub greats Justin Germano, Frankie de la Cruz and Ronny Cedeno played ball this year in the Italian Baseball League (which is also apparently a thing).

Also, if you're wondering what Josh Vitters is up to, he is in the Atlantic League and had the 5th worst average in the league this year of qualified batters.

The Italian and Dutch leagues are the only ones that matter in Europe.
