The 2016 Fielding Bible Award winners are:

First Base – Anthony Rizzo, Chicago Cubs

Second Base – Dustin Pedroia, Boston Red Sox

Third Base – Nolan Arenado, Colorado Rockies

Shortstop – Andrelton Simmons, Atlanta Braves

Left Field – Starling Marte, Pittsburgh Pirates

Center Field - Kevin Pillar, Toronto Blue Jays

Right Field – Mookie Betts, Boston Red Sox

Catcher – Buster Posey, San Francisco Giants

Pitcher – Dallas Keuchel, Houston Astros

Multi-Position – Javier Baez, Chicago Cubs

Andrelton Simmons being listed as being on the Braves is a great exemplification of how irrelevant the Braves and Angels both are. lmao it's like they gave him an award and don't even know what team he plays for

I was just thinking the gold glove needed a utility award so Javy could be recognized.

There's as much or more upside to having Sammy there as almost any non-HOF former player (except Wood and maybe a couple others). I mean, I wish things worked out differently for Prior, but I could give a horsefeathers if he's at Wrigley this weekend. Sosa is a bigger part of the Cubs than Prior ended up being.

The reality is there's very little upside or downside to having any of these people there. The story this weekend isn't going to be about any particular former player showing up or not. But why not just be the bigger person and invite back a former star?

I mean, just look at this place. Chances are the Bum has snuck back in unannounced and TT hasn't even hunted him down yet (emphasis on yet). It's a forgiving time.

its' not like they are hurting for alumni to drive interest and if/when it ever happens it will require PR work that they probably have no interest in dealing with right now.

The bold pretty much addresses this. There's no massive PR work. No one has to do horsefeathers. And the idea that Kerry Wood might be swinging a big dick around Chicago right now strikes me as funny. Kerry is about to go from favorite son to guy that threw a great meaningless game once.

agree to disagree

the 20k, winning NLDS, homerun in playoffs and return from injury as solid closer along with stating he felt he owed the team money already cemented his future. The fact that he has so aggressively celebrated this team can only solidify his reputation.

He's also been very active in the community pretty much his entire time he's been here, and has moved to Chicago permanently despite having no ties to the area. I haven't really ever heard a bad word said about him off the field either.

well, hyperbole is gonna hyperbole. he's done some great things but those will be pretty much eclipsed (not forgotten, but hitting a HR in the playoffs isn't going to be a thing Cubs cling to) if the Cubs win the next 3 games.

but I thought the point was pretty obvious. Kerry Wood was a great Cub and that's cool. I can't imagine his not liking Sosa is what is preventing the Cubs from having the guy around this weekend. And maybe that's b/c I just can't see KW being that petty, as he seems like a classy guy.

Yea if I had to guess, Kerry is one of the biggest reasons hes not back in good graces.

I don't think that's true. I'm fairly certain a read a Kerry Wood quote in an article a couple of years ago saying that it was past time for the Cubs to reconnect with Sammy.

As a Cardinals fan, I would just like to say, "Good Luck". This is one of the most exciting teams that I've ever seen play baseball. They have a ton of synergy and seem to have a great time playing together. Even professional baseball is supposed to be fun. I really expect this to go seven games and the Cubs to lose in some totally unexpected manner but I'm not necessarily rooting for that outcome. If any team can get up off the deck and turn it around, this team can. I'm not sure if they even know they're down.

The other thing that I would like to say is the thread about those who didn't get to experience this is one of the coolest things that I've ever seen on a message board. I'm posting here because I didn't want to contaminate it. I love the passion, baseball knowledge and sense of history that many Cubs fans exhibit. You have some of the best fans in baseball and to be honest, some of the dumbest, but we're all blessed and cursed that way to some degree. Good luck and you know I'll be hating your asses come March.

Lackey's kid was Kris Bryant for Halloween. That is beautiful.

Pretty awesome reminder that to your kid, you're Dad and even a major league player dad isn't quite as cool as NAME OF ANOTHER MAJOR LEAGUE PLAYER.

lol
