Reading the WSI thread just made me sad. I can't imagine getting so worked up over another sports team like that. Sure I dislike the Cardinals and Packers but when they win it's just a minor annoyance in my life.

there's not a sports league I continue caring about once my team is dead. The last time I actively rooted for a team that wasn't one of my own was the 2004 Boston Red Sox, because it was kinda cool and because I told everyone i knew when they were down 3-0 that they had a chance to come back and it played out exactly how i said it might. Other than that, i couldn't care less.

Series seems a lot more fun when games 2 & 3 are ignored.

That was absolutely perfect! I especially liked the musical crescendos as Rizzo and Contreras made contact with their homeruns.

I hate STL enough that I just don't watch their games, even the World Series, because seeing good things happen for them pisses me off too much. But I can't imagine actually going on message boards and devoting a lot of time to it.

I can imagine rooting against a team in the postseason. I do that every time the Cardinals make it. But I can't imagine being so invested in your hatred of another team. I don't know, maybe it's just talking crap, and they don't really feel it as strongly as they claim to.

So on the team pic, I love seeing KB leaping in the back and glad he didn't pull a Kipnis. Russell, I assume is that tiny half-face in the back-left behind Arrieta. They say he's a shy dude so I guess that makes sense but it sucks that he's barely in the pic.

And where is Joe?

Joe Maddon will be on Mike and MIke on ESPN radio somewhere around 8:30cst.

Someone texted me and said that Joe confirmed on this program that Schwarber was going to make the WS roster, barring any setbacks today. Anyone catch this?

Nope. Roster decisions being made in meetings later today. Not at all confirmed.

Sounds like he did allude to it happening as long as all went well. I didn't actually hear the interview myself, though.

Was curious what it was, so I just did the quick math and during the the first five years of the Theo, Jed, Jason regime the Cubs record is

400-409-1

I did not expect that winning percentage, obviously propped up by the 200 wins the last two, but I guess the first 3 years are magnified by how awful they were and bleed in with the 2 awful years before they got here.

Man, I probably shouldn't be surprised, but I'm having a helluva time finding a smaller W flag than 3x5 for my cubicle at work.

Expect Kyle to use this ammo to explain why Theo's administration has been a giant failure if the Cubs don't win the World Series this year.

Yes the last 2 years have been good, but the goal is to win the World Series and they haven't reached that goal in the 5 years they have been here. Instead we've been treated to sub-.500 baseball over a 5 year period and only 3-2 in playoff series. It's now been 9 years since a Theo-led team has won a World Series

could always get a garden flag

Oh, good thought. I wonder if I can find one locally, since that's not prime and the series might be over before i get it.

Thanks for the idea.
