Dexter is a beloved player who left his team to go to his rival for more money yet might be more liked by the team he left then the team he left for...has that ever happened? Edited by bcl412

Jackie Robinson.

Jackie Robinson.

Unless you mean when he integrated baseball (which would nix the 'rival' part of the story), he was traded from Brooklyn to the (then SF) Giants and retired before joining them, so I'm not sure that counts.

Thanks for the memories.

No ill will against Dex for getting paid. Hard to feel sorry for him when he's getting paid and got to win a world series with Cubs. Hard to be mad since we didn't have to give him the big paycheck and got the benefit of his career year.

Hope he does great and the cardinals find amazing ridiculous ways to lose.

All good feels.

So I'm watching the Mets-Sox game for the schadenfreude of seeing Tebow flail away at Porcello and Allen Craig came up to bat for the Sox. Wow, has that dude fallen off the map. In 2013 he hit .315/.373/.522, 129 OPS+ and then the next season he hit .215/.279/.315, 67 OPS+. Since then he's messed around in the minors and only played in 36 games in the bigs in 2015 and not at all last year.

It all worked out ok, but that trade where Boston handed Lackey at the league minimum to STL for that bag of crap was a really bad move at the time and is now a truly awful one.

Yeah, okay, Mike. Yadi, Adams, Peralta, Carpenter, and Gyorko would all be base running savants if they weren't such Chatty Cathy's at 1B. That's what's holding them back.

A different approach has emerged. Less talking. More focus.

“I’m not trying to get them to go out there and be this tough guy standing on first base,” Matheny clarified. “If someone talks to to you, acknowledge them. But, after that, there’s a play to be made.

“So, get your head into the idea of, I can change the game with what I’m about to do here, and I can talk to this guy at another time. We don’t have some policy in the place where there’s no fraternization. That’s not realistic. But Ollie (Marmol) is doing a nice job of having lots of communication, making sure they understand this is something we take real serious. It starts with being prepared. And if you are in this in-depth conversation with someone on another team, it’s really hard to get your mind into what all the potential things that could happen are. It’s part of the ongoing teaching and conversations we are having.”

After seeing the Best Fans twitter yesterday, and social media last night during the WBC game, I'm really, REALLY going to enjoy when the Cards don't pony up the money for Yadi.

I'm torn as to what I would enjoy more, them signing him to some huge dollar contract and then him being terrible or the absolute hell that will break loose when they don't sign him at all.

I'll be sad if they don't. giving up a [expletive] of money for a catcher that'll hit 35 this season is what the fans want so let them have it

It really is a win-win, but I think going to another team would be more entertaining from an "angry social media" perspective.

Did the Cardinals hire Joe Buck and John Smoltz as consultants this season? Run on those Cubs if you want to win the division! Please try Cardinals. I want to see more Javy tags and Contreras back-picks.
