i knew scott rolen was really really damn good (like a 4-6 win a year guy), but i'd have not guessed he had a 9 WAR season (in only 142 games too)

I think people forget just how good a defensive 3B he was. He had some excellent seasons offensively, but he always was a very good defensive player before we had good metrics for measuring defense. I'm still angry the Phillies traded him to the Cardinals...

Yeah, Rolen was the standard for 3B defense before Beltre. The Cardinals getting both him and Edmonds at that time was insane. Meanwhile the Cubs were passing on Beltran to subsequently acquire Pierre, Jones, Bradley, Fukudome and whoever else to do the same job.

the lack of a serious pursuit of beltran after 2004 was one of my biggest cubs offseason disappointments ever

The rumor I remember was the Phillies demanded Juan Cruz but the Cubs would only part with Zambrano. Interesting both teams fuked up on the Cruz aspect so cant blame the Cubs totally for what wouldve turned out to be robbery sending Juan for Rolen.

Did Rolen's post Phillies career turn out way better than Aramis though? We still had a good stretch at 3b after a 30 year drought.

Yeah, but we lost Bobby Hill!

I remember being happy we kept Cruz. My god his stuff was nasty.

Any article that talks about what a badass player Kenny Lofton was this much will get read by me. This got me thinking about players who lasted into this decade that should get at least some kind of HOF consideration. Some guys with good cases that probably are going to get similar treatment as Lofton from the HOF soon (maybe):

Sabathia - I almost want to say for sure, barring something extraordinary at the end

Halladay?

Buehrle?

Beltran?

Hernandez - Nah, I think he gets in.

C. Lee?

Cano?

Greinke?

Votto?

If Cliff Lee were to get more votes than Sabathia the earth shall tremble before my wrath. Miguel Cabrera, Adrian Beltre has it locked up probably, Posey is chugging along, and Verlander doesn't have to do so much. Kershaw could probably get in if he stopped right now, too lazy to check that (or any of this).

I actually didn't expect to come up with that many names of mainly current players with at least some case for the HOF. I might be missing one or two, for sure I'm intentionally not mentioning one name that Indefinitely think should be in the HOF at the end.

I'm drawing a blank and I assume I'm going to punch myself in the head but who is Hernandez?

What about Mauer? He was on track to be a lock - no? Now???

Bobby Abreu may disappear quicker than he deserves to.

No current pitchers are getting into the HoF unless voters adjust their stupid standards for pitcher wins or saves. If Schilling and Mussina can't get in then guys like Verlander it Felix have no shot until something changes. I think the BBWAA is finally getting younger or at least smarter but it's at a glacial pace.

I posted it in the Darvish thread, but his math is also wrong on the followed by part.

I put a heating pad on my pain spot all night Saturday for the first time and the next morning my lower back finally cracked. The pain went away instantly so maybe it might be something as easy as that for Kershaw.

Lmao
