Offense has exploded almost everywhere this year, but the Astros' team offense numbers are insane . Eight hitters have an OPS of .799 or higher. Their team OPS is .859. Their team wOBA is .362, and their team wRC+ is 130.

Their offense has been so much better than every other offense, only six offenses currently sport a positive fWAR this season.

Dodgers have played 60 home games and only 46 road games. Seems like an extreme split for this time of year. Schedule makers saddled them with a ton of road games down the stretch

Seams are clearly different. This season ball is on left older ball is on right

Clearly!

I can't see anything different.

Yeah, this is like OMC picking out johnson rods and ball bearings from a 1927 Spitter Kanoodle landing gear in a grainy photo of someone's balls.

The stitches are "pointing" in the opposite direction, but other than that I don't really see anything. Maybe the horseshoe of the stitch on the new one is wider? I don't know, nor do I care.

i think mccarthy is just talking about the ink. if you look closely, one of them has blue text. the other one actually has gold.

I just figured everyone was horsefeathering around not pointing that out; it seemed like an obvious callback to the whole blue/gold dress debate.

I mean, it's either that or who gives a horsefeathers.

Just curious if you are aware of the theory this year that the baseballs are different and that pitchers are noticing something wrong with the stitching that may be causing blisters.

I assume that he was either making a point or joke about that topic.

I have to keep checking back to make sure this wasn't started by David.

He is 100% talking about the seams.

Wait, is McCarthy saying the seams on the new ball are higher? Because that is the opposite of what the research suggests, and the lowered seams are supposedly one of the main reasons the ball is flying out of the park.

i figured they were "higher" because of the ball being more tightly wound but i don't know anything about these things

It's a few things. Ball is more tightly wound, but seams are lower, which lets it fly more, as the ball has less drag.
