Nah...It'll take like 5 secs for them to say "there wasn't conclusive evidence that such and such occurred".

The thing is, if that's all they're going to do, I don't really see the point. Signaling that the play stands already sends that message.

There's no way for those in attendance to know the reason a call was or was not overturned. Signalling the play stands does not automatically mean there wasn't conclusive evidence.

The weird thing to me is the crew chief has nothing to do with the decision in NY. Why not give NY a hot mic to the stadium to make his announcement?

It's probably just technically simpler to have the crew chief explain the decision.

it seems like the problem worth solving is understanding what exactly is being challenged, even broadcasters in the booth aren't sure at times. Have the umpires headset tell someone in ballpark ops that and it can be done over the PA after New York gives its ruling, no need to mic up the umps.

This definitely strikes me as a more useful move.

Bryce Harper just hit a grand slam off Teheran, his 2nd bomb of the game, and 7th off Teheran in just 35 PA

He now has 18 RBI is 13+ games

Everyone in MLB thinks Bucknor sucks butt and yet he keeps coming back season after season

Umpires Union is extremely powerful

Indeed. That's the weird thing. No one cares about the Umpires Union. Fans don't care about them except when they rule against their favorite team, the players definitely don't care for them, and I feel like management/ownership has some issues with them too.

Like the day is coming when technology in some form will usurp their ability to call balls & strikes. Like it's inevitable at this point. Unfortunately, the Umpires Union is going to fight that losing battle. Fight hard. They might even go on strike because they know that's the most important part of their jobs.

I don't remember who wrote this sentiment, but our children and/or grandchildren are going to think it was insane we ever let humans call balls and strikes in some imaginary strikezone that changes batter to batter.

Look at the offense you could have put together this winter relatively cheap.

C - McCann (128 wRC+)

1B - Thames (258)

2B - Phillips (139)

SS - Cozart (213)

3B - Shaw (129)

LF - Braun (153)

CF - Haniger (200)

RF - Bruce (148)

That team could have been relatively cheap in terms of prospects/players swapped and you'd have to take on a few contracts but nothing crippling. The worst being Braun, but he still has the elite offensive ceiling. That offense would be insane right now. All of those players were shopped pretty heavily or traded this winter.
