I love that clip.

What kind of monster eats pizza at a ballgame, anyway?

Pizza is an everywhere food sir.

nah

not at the ballpark.

i stand with constable

Pizza makes a LOT more sense at a game than some of these sandwich and dessert monstrosities we're seeing all over them these days.

I enjoy the fact that front offices around the league feign ignorance regarding elite middle relievers.

This is what Betances' arbitration process should have looked like:

It really is strange, because teams have been quick to adapt in other aspects, such as shifting and not bunting as much.

They're (mostly) pretending they don't know better to save themselves money. Not strange at all. Those arbitration guys are dumb.

Ah, I misread the post. Yeah, it makes sense for them to feign ignorance if it works.

I was speaking more to the whole closer dynamic and teams being dyed in the wool with bullpen roles.

Holy.. Starling Marte suspended 80 games for testing positive to something.

Those games over the weekend don't count now right?

While nothing is set, Major League Baseball and umps are expected to discuss a plan — most prominently used in the NFL — for crew chiefs to wear a microphone and explain replay rulings.

Under one possible scenario, they would start at the All-Star Game on July 11 in Miami, tweak the process over the season’s second half and then go forward with the experiment in the playoffs.

People familiar with the talks spoke to The Associated Press on condition of anonymity because an agreement has not yet been reached.

Manfred's initiatives to speed up the game continue with this decision that's virtually guaranteed to add more time than he just saved with his intentional-walk change.

Nah...It'll take like 5 secs for them to say "there wasn't conclusive evidence that such and such occurred".

The thing is, if that's all they're going to do, I don't really see the point. Signaling that the play stands already sends that message.

it seems like the problem worth solving is understanding what exactly is being challenged, even broadcasters in the booth aren't sure at times. Have the umpires headset tell someone in ballpark ops that and it can be done over the PA after New York gives its ruling, no need to mic up the umps.

There's no way for those in attendance to know the reason a call was or was not overturned. Signalling the play stands does not automatically mean there wasn't conclusive evidence.

The weird thing to me is the crew chief has nothing to do with the decision in NY. Why not give NY a hot mic to the stadium to make his announcement?
