Found this quote rather interesting in a Chicago Tribune article. It's about the home run Lackey gave up to Baez:

"If I had that one pitch to go back, I would definitely do something different," Lackey said. "A pitch kind of out on the plate to a hacker, and he ran into it."

Interesting because in his post game comments, Baez said he figured Lackey would spot a fastball on the first pitch based on Lackey's hissy fit after giving up the hit to Hammel.

The "hacker" schooled you, Johnny!

Yeah... Lackey is F.O.S. He spotted that pitch just like he spotted all the other pitches from the first game right on the edge. The only problem is, Javy Baez loves that pitch and made dongwork out of it.

Jeez.. think I've been here since '04, never was a super-active poster but I've checked this forum every day for over a decade. Wow.

Schwarbs hit made it 90% around the world? Amazing

You forgot the word "only," Goony...

I love this team and I love you guys! I found this place in 2008 and I don't post often, but I enjoy reading just about everything.

Finally going through GRB. One gem:

I've already tried to tell you that Baez is garbage, today notwithstanding. Dude is a strikeout machine who has a terrible swing and bad plate discipline. Soler has shown flashes but also struggles with plate discipline. I love Russell - Schwarber has prodigious power, but his avg. in Aug/September was hideous (and that was not facing any lefty pitchers to speak of).

Also - whose pitching for the Cubs? Lester contract will be terrible 2 years from now - Arrieta will not be this historically good again - and the other 3 guys in their rotation are hot garbage. Maybe they sign David Price and I change my tune - I'm not remotely afraid of the Cubs provided we stay healthy.

Dusty just called Cusack a bad actor on the post-game show after they showed a clip of him at the game, sounded like he was about to go into a story but got cut off

They've gotta be going to Stanley's tonight right? Because I'm going to stay there like a pathetic fanboy.

Also official ruling is I'm going to let this dongebration fester into the night then when our collective dongover subsides I will start an NLCS thread to discuss frivolities like future opponents if they ever decide to start finishing serieses

Yeah, with a few exceptions, the thin veneer of refinement came off of many of the posters over there as this series got away from the Cards. From calling the umps dirty, blaming all the dongs on the wind (admittedly a couple last night were, but that's it) and generally refusing to admit the Cubs earned this, they're just an average bunch of bitter meatballs.

Of course, their team just got bounced by their bitter rivals, so some of that is to be expected. The smarter ones know the Cubs are here for a good long while.

did Jake just say he got ready too early before last game?

*just checked it he said, "Now I know I need to get ready later, because the adrenaline and the energy is there from the get go."*

road goes both ways, Heywards bomb is an out and Peralta's double is a fly out as well with no wind.... meaning they dont score a run. Whereas Fowler and Kyle's HRs probably dont go out. Soler's still does because it was a line drive missle.

If one were to get a personalized "Dongs" Cubs jersey what would the number be? 15 since it started this year, or 11 since that's when Theo was hired? Edited by Cubswin11

i'm going through my recording of the game and watching the good parts, and on the Schwarber home run I could see it land on top of the sign bounce up and hit the bottom of the budweiser sign and come back down

Toying around with sending out a mass email to anyone that ever registered with nsbb to come back and post during the nlcs.

What should the text be?

I think Heyward's ball may have been homer regardless, but Peralta's double and Piscotty's 9th inning HR (though irrelevant) would have been a flyouts. As you say, Schwarber and Fowler's homers last night were wind aided, but the rest were legit.

One poster over there called Javy's HR today a "pop-up that got out", which was absurd.
