  1. Hyperbole much? I feel like people are generally underestimating how much Eloy will have to hit to be highly valuable. He’s absolutely capable of it because he’s a monster and a special hitting talent, but he plays a position everyone hits. Corner players that hit a lot aren’t difficult to find. But it’s concerning that he hasn’t shown a willingness to walk, which is a skill all these great hitters you hear him compared to do. This is something he can improve, obviously, but usually hitters are pretty close to what they’ve been in that department. His walk numbers are pretty much identical to Javy Baez’s in the minors (literally identical to Javy’s last full AAA stint at 6.7%), for example. And there’s his body. He’s already a horse. Usually this doesn’t age well for athleticism. Jason Heyward is the rare exception. So it’s quite possible his entire value will come from hitting the ball out of the park and a high average. And he should do these things well, but you have to do them *really* well to be a 3+ WAR kind of player, especially if we’re talking doing it on an annual basis. It’s just a difficult path. Jose Quintana has been super blah this year (and has been dealing with shoulder fatigue), but odds are he’s closer to the 3.5+ fWAR pitcher he was the previous 5 years than the pitcher he’s been this year too. If you want a for-sure crappy Cubs-White Sox trade, it’s Jon Garland for Matt Karchner. The Quintana trade was the right move in the Cubs’ position. It may end up looking bad in the end, but a lot would have to happen for it to end up looking brutal. nope.
  2. this trade is one month away from being the worst trade in Cubs history.
  3. 100% agree with all of this at least Rizzo didnt Kent Hrbek the guy...
  4. Met Mike Bryant today. Great guy. Talked for about an hour and told him about this message board. He may pop up here.
  5. I was just coming here to post this. been out of the country since the 11th of November. Would a Soler for Marcell Osuna trade be target if Fowler doesnt resign? would fix the outfield logjam and CF problem at the same time. Soler landing in Miami might do wonders for him.
  6. go get me one! Bob, I hate to shill for Ebay, but there are a bunch of them listed here. However seeing the explosion of them on Ebay makes me think that they might be restocked soon, but then again, maybe not. http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_odkw=chicago+cubs+world+series+hats&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR0.TRC0.H0.Xchicago+cubs+world+series+knit+hats.TRS1&_nkw=chicago+cubs+world+series+knit+hats&_sacat=0
  7. Different levels of compensation picks went away in the last CBA. If you give someone a qualifying offer(this year it's 1/17) and they sign elsewhere, you get a pick after the first round. Chapman isn't eligible to receive a qualifying offer because he was traded midseason, and Hammel won't be given a qualifying offer because he'd accept, so the Cubs will get one pick for Fowler signing elsewhere. thanks TT appreciate the clarification. (and Raisin) Haven't followed the minors at all this year with a family member in the hospital. Does this pretty much spell the end of Pierce Johnson, Duane Underwood and Ryan Williams as possible #5 next year? Were they really that bad?
  8. does the compensation pick for losing Hammel depend on whether the Cubs give him the QO or not? or since he won 15 would he be a comp A pick? also if we lose Hammel, Fowler, and Chapman... would we be looking at 3 comp A picks? (who gets 3 comp A picks other than St. Louis :D)
  9. If you do not live in Chicago and want Cubs Championship stuff I recommend going to your local LID's by footlocker. Just got back from Fashion show mall in Vegas and they had TONS of Cubs Championship stuff... even here they were selling like hot cakes.
  10. first page is gold. and about the John Cusack thing, you guys know exactly how you react inside your head when you hear people say they are fans of the Yankees, Dodgers, Cardinals, and other teams at the same time. Cusack is a bandwagoner. There is nothing wrong with that, but lets not pretend he isnt one. [spoil][/spoil]
  11. Im right there with you on any other Chicago team winning. I kinda want some stuff to put over my Grandparents grave marker and send pictures to my out of state relatives.
  12. seriously I wouldnt mind overpaying anyone who could get me something. I do not live in Chicago and leaving the country on the 9th to visit relatives. Would like to have something to wear when I see them. Paying 300$+ and not having it until December would suck.
  13. my mom really wants that knit beanie hat too, but its sold out everywhere. Lids, Fansedge, Fanatics, etc you name it its gone. I hope it comes back.
  14. Thank you Dex! Time for Almora.
  15. cant vote on this... all of the options are equally MVP... need nachos as an option as well... just glad we didnt have to whip out Saved by the Bell to win game 7.
  16. watching the game with my brother (Baseball coach for Liberty High school in Las Vegas (we both went to Bonanza High School)) tonight who said: I hate the trade for montero... that contract is crazy and he will never live up to it. I hate trading starlin and we get this Zobrist utility guy for 3 years whos 35 already? what a waste. Arrieta is at best a 4 pitcher. 2014 was a fluke and he cant possibly get better I hate that we let go of Shark... hes going to be the next Clemens Why draft Bryant? My team was able to strike him out 3 times and he only hit one 500 bomb off our ace(2010). too many holes in his swing to ever be productive (before the 2013 draft) also compared him to Dave Kingman. Javy is hot garbage. Trade him for a bag of balls.
  17. Monty is a rich man's Adam Warren.

  20. Thank you Grandpa for teaching me about the Cubs when I was 4 years old and visiting your house in Palentine. Thank you for telling me that Ron Cey was a bum and couldnt hit in the clutch. Thank you for taking me to a game where Jody Davis beat the Pirates with a home run. Thank you for teaching me that even though the Cubs do not win, the point in life is to try your best and never quit. Thank you for setting me straight in 1988 when I tried to root for the Oakland Athletics. Thank you for teaching me that the National league is where real baseball is played. Thank you for being with me tonight and I hope you enjoyed something you always wanted to see in your 63 years on this planet. I will never forget you and I cannot thank you enough for this feeling. I love you.
  21. is it just me, or is this move by the Indians on par with if the Cubs were to invite Henry Rowengartener from American Pie?
  22. thousand apologies if this was posted elsewhere but I had no idea where to post it so this was pretty awful. http://www.nbcnewyork.com/news/sports/Young-Cubs-Fan-Knocked-Out-During-Game-1-of-World-Series-398776391.html
  23. our starting lineup reeks of Theo and 2004 Red Sox. Start all offensive players, then with a late innings lead replace them with defensive studs like Doug Mientkiewicz and O.Cabrerra.
  24. I have nothing to add. I just wanted to post in this thread with all my fellow Cubs fans.
