Why even have Emery speak? Is is typical to let fired coaches and GMs talk?

Probably just asked to read a statement...that I imagine was cleared by the Bears.

@AlexJKirby: Bears told reporters at the press conference that the last one out needs to turn out the lights because "money doesn't grow on trees."

The hell?

Hahaha, I guess when you are eating Emery's and Trestman's contracts and possibly Jays you have to cut corners somewhere.

The janitorial staff was among those affected by the overhaul.

Highsmith has been with Packers' personnel dept for 16 years. That would be an interesting hire. McClay seems a bit shallow on the admin. side, at least relative to Highsmith. At minimum he's (Highsmith) worked in a good front office for a long while.

Wonder if we could hire Clements away from GB to be the HC and call the plays...

I'm sure we could but I see no reason to think that's the best hire.

Their offense is awesome every year, even when Rodgers was out last season?

We should hire McCarthy then.

Michael Silver scoffing at Trestman being fired, places all the blame on Emery's poor GM track record, which starts with the stupid hiring of Trestman.

Offense great in '13, bad in '14 with the same players. That's got nothing to do with Emery.

ROFL...um...that was something.

"I just wanted to say that I always showed up for work wearing pants so I did the best job I could. Thank you George and Marc. Goodbye everybody."

I think Emery did good enough things to get him some extra time. Hirung a weird ass coach was not one of those things.

Apparently Silver is saying Emery's biggest mistake was firing Lovie (I didn't see it though -- just a retweet).

While I agree he wound up a terrible coach in Trestman, to me that's where the bad decision lies. I wouldn't expect a GM to just stay with a coach that he never hired and didn't feel like was the best guy moving forward.

guy on WSCR doesn't like Jay because he refused him an autograph in the team hotel and he told McCaskey about the Cutler "incident" later on in the dining room at the hotel. wow, the people who call into radio shows are the best.

Well duh, they were terrible as opposed to winning 10 in Lovie's last year.

Firing Lovie was fine. He couldn't put together an offense. Passing on Arians was the move that got Emery fired.

To me it's obvious.

Plus, Trestman is weird. His last day with the Bears was the same as all the previous days.

I had high expectations a few games into '13. Did not see the offense regressing this much and Trestman losing the team. Thought the defense would improve with a better dline. Wouldn't have been surprised to see the Bears the 6th seed.

I was wrong.

@dpbrugler: If my NFL team needed a GM, three names I'd hope to see on the interview list: Chris Ballard, Will McClay and Alonzo Highsmith

McClay would be nice.

Now I need to start doing some research on candidates.

Initial research on McClay complete.

He has extensive experience in the Arena Football league as a coach.

Does this sound at all familiar, Cali?

Whatever his faults as GM, I'll miss Emery for his personality and press conferences.

Is there any ST coaches that went up as HC (past or present)??

Only asking cuz it seems rare that a ST coach ends up being HC.

Mike Ditka was ST coach for the Cowboys when the Bears hired him.

Ballard and Brown both got their start as scouts with the Bears in 2001.

Eric DeCosta is the guy they need

Just don't see it happening. He's got a great ready made gig and family ties in Balt.
