Actually, Emery IS talking at 11:30. McCaskey and Phillips at 4:00.

This seems odd...

Emery seems like a standup guy who was embarrassed by what became of his team and I would guess the Bears trust him to not be a dick in this press conference.

Also, Emery enjoys press conferences. Trestman seemed to really dislike it. Emery will probably talk for an hour.

... with Phillips moved to a business side-only role and joined by an equivalent executive overseeing all things football-related

So is Dave Toub the leader in the clubhouse?

Who is he close to that would be his coordinators?

No idea. He has ties to Philly, Chicago and KC, so obviously a lot of coaches that also have ties to Lovie and Andy Reid, as well as John Harbaugh (the ST coordinator in Philly when Toub was his asst).

Brad Childress was on those Philly staffs and is currently with KC. Leslie Frazier was also on that Philly staff and could theoretically be given a promotion to assistant head coach if taken from Lovie's staff. Steve Spagnuolo would be another potential candidate.

None of those guys excite me

Not me either, which is why I mentioned Toub. They have a tendency to look at guys with prior attachment to the Bears, and he's the closest former coordinator who has interviewed with multiple teams.

I am guessing they were never embarrassed like this during Lovie era and have some hopes of returning to that style. Toub is probably more fiery but could theoretically return to "how things should be run", especially if he has multiple former head coaches on his staff under him.

@dpbrugler: If my NFL team needed a GM, three names I'd hope to see on the interview list: Chris Ballard, Will McClay and Alonzo Highsmith

McClay would be nice.

Now I need to start doing some research on candidates.

Is there any ST coaches that went up as HC (past or present)??

Only asking cuz it seems rare that a ST coach ends up being HC.

Harbaugh in Baltimore.

Bill Belichek was once a ST coach.

Why wouldn't the new GM hire who he wants?

Well just a quick statement and no questions.

@AlexJKirby: Bears told reporters at the press conference that the last one out needs to turn out the lights because "money doesn't grow on trees."

The hell?

Wonder if we could hire Clements away from GB to be the HC and call the plays...

I'm sure we could but I see no reason to think that's the best hire.

I have been beating that drum since before trestman.

Hahaha, I guess when you are eating Emery's and Trestman's contracts and possibly Jays you have to cut corners somewhere.

I don't think I can keep listening to Rozner and Miller much longer... no, Cutler isn't a superstar quarterback, but the best QB available will be Brian freaking Hoyer. He's the best option we have.

Miller is actually making sense. Jay needs to develop as a leader.

Most of what he's saying sounds like it belongs in a conversation with BigbadB and his new buddy.

Indeed, which is why the nugget of clarity was so striking.
