Rex Ryan, Todd Bowles & Stanford HC David Shaw...Chris Ballard at GM. MT @vnzdn1: @MattBowen41 Short list for GM & HC?

Lol they just said on the score that Ballard worked with the Bears for 12 years with Angelo and spent time under Emery in KC. no thanks.

He's pretty well regarded though, FWIW.

Yeah, wasn't just the score that said it. It's been the rumor all over twitter since earlier yesterday.

A source close to Mike Shanahan said he definitely has interest in coaching #Bears: chicago.suntimes.com/bears-football…

Please no

My biggest issue with Shanahan (other than he sucked since Elway retired) is that this is a move that caters to Jay. Honestly, there should be no more moves made to make things ideal for Cutler. He's not the future anymore. Best case, he's a good placeholder for 2 years. The new coach should outlast Cutler.

Now, whether or not the Bears did enough to cater to Jay is a different story.

What about Shanahan as president hiring Kubiak as his head coach?

We could do worse... Still not my top choice.

Thus, we should only hire someone not highly regarded.

He showed up on a list I searched back in November (which also had some other guy who got his start as a Bears scout around the same time) so apparently Angelo's GM tree is gonna end up being absurd and the Bear are cranking out GMs for some reason.

ETA- I looked back and the list was written by Greg Gabriel who was director of college scouting with the Bears from 2001-10 so that explains the bias. Still Ballard has showed up on other lists and TB wanted to interview him last year.

The more I read and hear today, the more I'm starting to warm to the idea of Rex Ryan as HC.

Me too. I know its Rozner but he thinks Rex already knows where he will be next year.

Former #49ers HC Mike Singletary would be interested in interviewing for the now vacant #Bears head coaching job, a league source said.

Great. So would I.

If the Bears were gonna go the "comedy hire" route, that'd be the top choice.

Better get in line in a hurry before all the other teams clamoring for Singletary get him.

That might be OK, because I think Kubiak can actually coach. Shanny has done nothing without Elway.

Nothing about Rex makes me think the Bears will fix their offense/QB issues the next 10 years.

I think he could do enough with the defense to minimize those flaws. He'd need to have a competent OC, undoubtedly.

Or.....Thus, hire someone well-regarded who is not from the Angelo-Emery tree.

He did pretty good with a rookie RGIII

I love the "unemployed coach would be interested in _______ head coaching job" reports.

Yup. In an "at least it's not likely he'll be a complete disaster with a competent GM" kinda way.

You could say the same thing about Lovie; I'd still rather have a HC leaning to the offensive side of things even after the Trestman debacle.

I wouldn't hire any former linebackers or safeties that played for a long time in the NFL.

I'd be fine with Kubiak as HC so long as the player personnel / GM guy is from an organization that actually has a track record of drafting very talented people.

Do you not remember what the problem was during the Lovie era?

Being a defensive centric team sucks and is dumb.

I'd be OK with Rex as long as we hired a Linehan-type to run the offense.
