the people saying having marshall/jeffery is redundant sure did forget what it was like having a bunch of 5-11 guys at WR.

the more big, physical WRs with absurd hands the better

Well, what it's like to have two plodding, injured receivers that DBs dare to go more than 10 yards downfield is pretty fresh in our minds.

Did they get incapable or did Trestman [expletive] it up? Not a single person complained about redundant WRs when they both went for 1200+ the previous year.

No way to know for sure, but I'm OK with gaining a fifth-round pick and a ton of cap space to forgo finding out.

Words can't even begin to describe how much I hate Dan Bernstein.

Ha true! I met him and Boers last fall at Bannerman's in Bartlett during one of their shows leading up to the Bears-Jets MNF game. He is every bit the jerk in person as he is on the radio. Insulting people in the audience just like he does with the callers. Although maybe the people in the audience are as stupid as his callers? He and Boers were out the door the second the show ended.

I demand that Sammy Sofa re-post the picture that led to the "what is...that" comment on Boers. I hate how he sucks up to Bernstein and agrees with everything he says. I only listen to it when I'm sick of Middle-East news, or when major news come out re: Bears/Cubs in hopes of hearing interviews.

A ton of cap space? 3.95M? That's a mid teir FA. Certainly a good bit of actual dollar savings.

He is kind of a quack... But he was a pretty good leader, at least during his first two years here. He did a lot to take young players under his wing, most notably Jeffrey. If they don't trade out of that 6 spot they should take White or Cooper and have a sick WR tandem that even a Sanchez would find some success with.

I guess this is not too crazy because it was 8 years ago which is a lifetime in the NFL but with Briggs gone, and I'm assuming Tillman gone, the only members of the 2006 Bears remaining are Gould and Garza. I'm guessing Garza is safe next year because the old administration signed him to a 1 year extension but I'm guessing next year is his last. Gould I could see being cut if Pace and Fox don't want to spend top dollar on a kicker.

Just kind of weird that all those great Bears on the 2006 defense, Briggs, Urlacher, Harris, Brown, Tillman all gone.

kind of in the same vein - if the Bears don't resign Conte or Paea, Forte will be the only Bear left from the 2007-2011 drafts.

The first one didn't faze me at all because nine years is near eternity in the NFL. But the draft tidbit floored me.

Yeah. If anything, I'm surprised it took this long to completely turn over the 2006 defense.

The draft fact is an utter failure. There's only 2 reasons why a guy doesn't last on the same team beyond his rookie contract.

1. He's not good

2. The team is so good that they can afford to NOT pay the player.

A) because they draft well enough to replace him (see Patriots since forever)

B) because they have to pay all their other good players (see Seahawks with Maxwell)

Of course, Paea doesn't really fit into either. And Danieal Manning kinda doesn't, though I'd guess Lovie and Angelo thought 2A.

I'd have been interested in bringing Briggs back. Honestly, 3-4 ILB where he just plays 2 downs and hits people between the tackles is where he's at in his career now. The Bears are probably going to pay someone to do this within the next week anyway. Briggs would probably be just as good as any of them. Though, won't fault the Bears for getting rid of him.

This is going to be the most fascinating Bears offseason of my lifetime. They are switching defensive formations for the first time in more than 10 years, arguably for the first time since Buddy Ryan left. They traded a commodity (Marshall) who they would have literally killed for as recently as 4 years ago and pretty much every year prior. There's a lot more to come.

I do not see the Bears being players for any major free agent. I haven't even seen their name in any rumors, which is sad.
@VicTafur: It sounds like the first pack of seven in the Suh sweepstakes are: #Raiders, #Dolphins, #Bears, #Jaguars, #Giants, #Chargers and #Lions.

We've also been linked to McCourty, Culliver, Searcy, etc. And also supposedly looking at every pass rusher. In other words, there's nothing to worry about.

Yeah, Aaron Lemming (who broke the Marshall trade), tweeted "Based on what I've heard, I'd be surprised if the Bears didn't sign one of the top FA safeties. Name I've heard most is Da'Norris Searcy from Buffalo".

It's also been mentioned that the Bears have been making contact with FA defensive ends. They were mentioned with 2 4-3 teams, meaning likely after edge rushers. In particular, I've heard them linked to Jerry Hughes.

Also, read they in play for Byron Maxwell, but expect to be outbid...fallback options are the 2 CBs from SF and Davon House.

I did read that they're out on Suh though, and it's down to Miami or Detroit.

we traded Marshall? [expletive] we are dumb

I like the cap space, but trading him for the sake of trading him would have been dumb.
