So talk to me people, how good is Knighton?

Pretty good. 330lb man that can really move. More than just a big run stopper. Can get after the passer some. Had like 3-4 sacks in Broncos Superbowl run laat year. Not going to play a ton of snaps though.

So, there's this tweet....

@AllbrightNFL: Several teams expect Shaun Hill wind up in Chicago.
With Jimmy Clausen signed Friday, this is pretty interesting.

Veteran who can start a few games if they draft Mariotta and get rid of Cutler? lol

Why would Fox come to Chicago to develop a QB and waste half of his contract, with a rookie QB?

I don't know but since it seems like they are seriously considering getting rid of Cutler, it's a possibility that's on the table unless you know of another QB that's even a slight possibility of acquiring that makes the Bears contenders in 1-2 years.

I could have my timeline wrong but I believe when Fox was hired the available openings were the Bears, Falcons, and Raiders.

The Falcons were zeroed in on Quinn and were waiting for the Seahawks season to end. The Raiders would be a job less ready for winning. The Bears were there as a reasonably attractive option and more importantly, they were interested in Fox.

It's possible that Fox took the job knowing that there might be a year or two of quasi rebuilding.

i was all for the front office and staff they hired but going into a full rebuild is [expletive] pathetic.

Definitely not a full rebuild. There is really no such thing as a full rebuild in the NFL. But the Bears need a [expletive] load of help at a lot of positions. It might take a season or two to get the pieces in place. Replacing the QB in the draft seems to be a completely crapshoot so we would have to get a bit lucky there if we cut bait with Cutler

HOW DARE THEY GO FULL REBUILD THAT THEY'VE TOTALLY STARTED ALREADY

an offensive core of cutler, forte, marshall, jeffery and bennett is still, even in 2015, really, really, solid. upgrade the D and add a more competent coaching staff and thats a team that can compete for a title.

getting rid of marshall and cutler and not signing anyone of value? that's forfeiting for no reason.

gonna be a long few years.

I think people are denial about how fast guys like Marshall and Forte and even Cutler can get old and bad.

I'm not gung-ho about a "rebuild," but if they want to risk getting out too early rather than too late on some of those guys and still try to put together a competitive team next year with the resources they gain, cool with me.

Out of curiosity, what odds would you guys put on Cutler being an above average QB next year(e.g. Top 15-16 statistically)? Apologies if I missed a similar discussion earlier in the thread, feel free to ignore if so.

I dunno if there's a stat I trust for QBs. It seems impossible to divorce their statistical performance from scheme, personnel and *especially* game context. Pro Football Outsiders had him at a negative VOA and 25th in QBR last year, I guess.

I'd say about 40%? He's got a chance if he's here and the new coaching staff is competent in ways that the last one wasn't, but he really looked like horsepoop a lot last year and defenses on our schedule really know how to confuse him and/or induce him into turnovers.

I would take my chances with Cutler over any other QB available this offseason. Sure he is unpredictable, but he gives the team a better chance to win.

Per @JaysonBraddock, Chicago Bears also interested in Colin Kaepernick trade. Would obviously make Jay Cutler available.

@AaronLemingNFL: Report: #Bears are closing in on 5 year deal with OLB Pernell McPhee. Deal is expected to be worth just under $40M total.

This dude reported the Marshall to Jets trade an hour before the big guys had it

Had to look up some info on him. PFF rated him the second best 3-4 OLB in the league last year with Baltimore.
