As we've said since last month, Bears are definitely interested in Mason Foster, too.

From what I'm told, #Bears currently targeting ILB's and a Safety. Mason Foster, Da'Norris Searcy and Antrel Rolle names to watch.

Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider

Pernell McPhee emerged as top under-the-radar pass rusher with 7.5 sacks behind Terrell Suggs and Elvis Dumervil, played half the snaps

Aaron Wilson @RavensInsider

Pernell McPhee wanted to play for Bears coach John Fox, was impressed with him and the Bears' plan for him as a pass rusher

Washington Redskins were among the several other teams interested in Pernell McPhee, according to league sources.

I hate not knowing what the hell defense I'm going to be watching next year.

Really? The defensive base story is the least interesting part of this offseason to me.

Well, I didn't say anything about comparing it to other offseason issues. I just like to know what the Bears are running and who they're running it with. I'm a draft guy, and that helps me to try and guess who and what types of players the Bears will be drafting. Offense isn't as big of a deal, because most players fit in most offenses.

Seems like Fox and Fangio both have experience running versatile schemes. I'd say the answer is that they won't be drafting to fit a scheme and will just target the best players. Maybe focus on versatile defenders in your draft analysis?

I'm not against bringing in another edge rusher with #7. But I have more faith in Fangio than anyone - using FA and a year to make existing pieces fit on D is enough to make me want Cooper with their 1st pick. I'm extremely happy to see possible upgrades with the oline already in the fold.

I think he can play some inside as well...

Definitely starting to get excited seeing actual names attached to us.

Pretty much. From what my limited football knowledge can tell, it seems like all the names the Bears are attached to are pretty respectable ones.

And as far as Rolles age, S is probably the one spot I'm okay being a little older at. It seems guys can age at that spot. I'd be happy with that pickup.

I like that we are addressing positional needs via FA rather than waiting for the draft. IMO, the draft should be for BPA's as much as possible, and we are setting ourselves up nicely for that possibility.

I think going another year without a rangy FS will be another year of exposing the CB's. But, they don't grow on trees and the highest rated S in the draft is supposedly more of a SS type. Will have to bank on the pass rush again and it's hard not to see Rodgers' tearing up the secondary again in his sleep. But improvement back there at all cannot be understated. Not sure how FS played in Fangio's system.

Cue anger:

Matt Clapp @DaBearNecess

Bernstein says he heard this morning that the #Bears are working very hard to trade Cutler & believe they can get it done.

To be fair, that may have just been a sex dream Bernstein had last night.

Bernstein's making [expletive] up again and hoping it sticks.

Before I got to the end of your post I had the same thought.

Not that it's probable, at all, that either QB is getting traded, or not starting the season with their current team, but would some form of a Kaepernick-Cutler(+) swap be feasible? I'm not sure I'd like it. Not the biggest Kaepernick fan.

Kapernick was significantly ahead of Cutler in 13'; last season he took a giant step back and was slightly behind Jay. What do we chalk that up to?

It seems like a straight up deal could work in theory, but both of them have somewhat interesting contract situations that I think makes a deal much less likely than just straight up releases.

@dan_bernstein: Source: #Bears actively shopping Cutler, would move him for "reasonable return." Offers to this point have underwhelmed

I heard somewhere about a deal that would send Cutler to Tennesee, Kap to Chicago, and a 1st and 2nd rounder to San Fran (where they'd presumably draft Mariota)

I will say, there was a rumor swirling last week about Cutler to the #Titans for basically the swap of 2nd & 3rd round picks. #Bears

Meatball celebrations over getting intentionally worse at the QB position is going to be something we're just going to have to live with.

Not a Cutler fan and I'm unsure how to feel about a potential trade with the Bears getting worse at the QB position (if Kap isn't coming). I am anxious for a new era at QB however that hopefully doesn't involve Quinn, Krenzel or Hutchinson. I'd love to see a Safety added to the mix
