Apparently the Bears are denying there was ever talk of trading Cutler, which I don't believe. I'd believe it never got serious, but I'm sure it was brought up.

If they are going to pretend they wanted him all along they should have been more committal when repeatedly given the opportunity to since Pace was hired.

Supposedly Cutler has been to Halas a few times recently, so while they may be feeding us a line, I'm hopeful they've been straight up with Jay about his status.

Man, I really really don't want Kap. The guy is a first class douche. The only thing going for him is that he does seem to own Green Bay.

Cutler is a 'first class douche.' I'd think Kaep is more of a 'second class douche.' #progress

Cutler is not a douche at all, anti-vaxxer wife aside. He's a [expletive] bad ass. Kaepernick is, in fact, a douche, however.

jay himself is an anti-vaxxer. they're his kids too.

so he can't disagree with something (not saying he does - we don't really know how he feels about it) while still letting his wife make a choice she (stupidly) feels strongly about?

if jay took the kids to the doctor and got them shots anyway is kristin no longer an anti-vaxxer?

Sensible move. Cutler can probably be a top 12-15 QB just be cutting his turnovers down by 25%. If they run more than they did last season (likely), that shouldn't be too difficult to make happen.

If Jay doesn't play well this season it will be easier to move on in a year.

It won't be any easier next year. It's now or two years from now (or even further on).

Are you really trying to defend him on this? Either he's an anti-vaxxer or he doesn't give a [expletive] if his kids are put at risk for preventable diseases. It's horrible either way.

i'm not defending anything. i'm just saying his statement didn't follow logically. (and as far as your explanations, those aren't the only two options, either - even though i strongly disagree with any that result in people not being vaccinated).

I know anti-vaxxers. And in my experience it is the mom being deathly afraid of what Jenny McCarthy and her ilk have told them and the dad just going along for the ride or a dad with a severe conspiratorial bent who convinces the wife they don't need that stuff (because in the real world parental roles are not split 50/50). It seems pretty clear that Jay defers to his wife and what he perceives as her expertise on the matter. That is negligent, but not the same as not giving a [expletive] what happens to his kids.

Yeah, I'm not buying that.

Yeah, I'm not buying that.

I would, however, believe it was as simple as just them listening to offers to see if they actually got something worthwhile.

Are they denying talk of trading Cutler or that there were "trade talks". Talk of trading Cutler is pretty much guaranteed to have happened, internally. I'm very much pro-Cutler and think it is a no-brainer, but it would have been a dereliction of duty for the new regime to not at least discuss the issue. I do think there were never any actual trade talks, which would involved other teams.

Football Dummy Question: Would it actually make sense for the Bears to go after someone like Revis?

yes

Follow up question: Why would they not do that? It seems like they have the cap room for it.

I don't think so. While Revis would obviously be an upgrade, there are areas that need significant FA dollars more than CB. While its not an elite CB duo right now, it does consist of last year's first round pick and a 2012 and 2013 Pro Bowler.

Fair, but Jennings was garbage last year. This is probably his last year. You don't not go after Revis because you have Jennings. If the argument is that you'd rather spend on Safety, D-Line, etc...I'd buy it, but they didn't go strong after McCourty and have signed McPhee, so it at least makes a little bit of sense, no?

I would be more than happy to see someone that can move Fuller or Jennings into the slot. Fuller's struggles could likely extend into his soph season more than hoped and Jennings is on the decline. Chris Culliver would be ideal. There are so many holes it really doesn't hurt to add anywhere.

Huge cost and cap hit for an older corner with injury history. He turns 30 this season and it's all downhill from here, so it would be an inefficient use of resources.

Today needs more Bears rumors, you guys.

There's a lot of buzz that Knighton to the Raiders was false and that the Bears are a finalist.

Who are you following for that?

Jeff Dickerson @ESPNChiBears

#Bears informed veteran MLB DJ Williams the team is going in a different direction & he will not return to Chicago, per a source.

Adam Hoge ‏@AdamHoge 34m34 minutes ago

#Bears still in the mix for DT Terrance Knighton, according to a source.

Aaron Leming ‏@AaronLemingNFL 1h1 hour ago

According to a report, DT Terrance Knighton is NOT close to signing with the #Raiders. #Bears have serious interest depending on price.

Twitter search Terrance Knighton. But Leming, Dickerson, Troy Renck, Adam Hoge. And some Raiders reporters denied they were close to a deal last night.

Yeah, I saw the Chicago Sports News tweet, but I think they are in the educated guesses business. All of their sourced stuff usually comes right after a real source says something about another team being out, etc. At least I think.
