Whether the new guy would get rid of Cutler and how/why should be right at the top of the list in terms of judging whether or not they can do the job. If you can move him only if you're miraculously getting something of value in return, great, but if you're doing it to punt next year and placate the meatballs, then move the [expletive] along.

This is basically how I feel. Unless they can convince me that 2016 is the year we can draft our next franchise QB and tanking would actually be beneficial.

If you are a prospective GM or coach, how would you rank the Bears job compared to the other open ones?

Right; Cutler isn't what we hoped he would be, but he's at least a serviceable QB if the team isn't a dumpster fire.

If they go the "keep Cutler" way, I think we need to focus on the defense. I think that's the best way to cover up Cutler's flaws. I was all for putting the money into the offense, but I don't think Cutler can be that guy.

He's definitely not a QB who can overcome a bottom of the barrel defense, but there aren't many of those around.

Rex Ryan, Todd Bowles & Stanford HC David Shaw...Chris Ballard at GM. MT @vnzdn1: @MattBowen41 Short list for GM & HC?

Christ, please not Ballard or Shaw.

That's gonna be the focus no matter what IMO. The offense should get a few pieces, a OL, maybe a young WR or RB. But even as disappointing as the offense was the D is still way behind.

Lol they just said on the score that Ballard worked with the Bears for 12 years with Angelo and spent time under Emery in KC. no thanks.

Phillips will be moving to the business side per several tweets, including Dan Bernstein.

EDIT: sorry, Bears are "considering" this.

A source close to Mike Shanahan said he definitely has interest in coaching #Bears: chicago.suntimes.com/bears-football…

Please no

My biggest issue with Shanahan (other than he sucked since Elway retired) is that this is a move that caters to Jay. Honestly, there should be no more moves made to make things ideal for Cutler. He's not the future anymore. Best case, he's a good placeholder for 2 years. The new coach should outlast Cutler.

Now, whether or not the Bears did enough to cater to Jay is a different story.

I think it's 9 years under Angelo. 1 year under Emery in CHI. 2 years under Reid in KC.

He's pretty well regarded though, FWIW.

What about Shanahan as president hiring Kubiak as his head coach?
