Harbaugh makes perfect sense for Michigan, much less for the Bears. Bowles on the other hand...

I know that Bowles is the hot coordinator coaching candidate this year, but are we really going to go back to a defensive HC?

If you're going the defensive coach route, why not Rex Ryan? His GM has given him absolute [expletive] to work with on offense and they've been pretty competitive every year except this one.

The problem with both Rex and Bowles is that they run 3-4 defenses.

I'd love to have Rex Ryan as head coach or defensive coordinator. Ryan and Cutler would be a perfect storm for the media and meatballs.

Although I'm a little bit bigger of a Bears fan I'd rather him go to Michigan because I believe Harbaugh is much more needed at UM. There's a much smaller pool of coaches that can (quickly) turn around that program.

Why is that a problem? The Bears don't have a ton of talent on defense and are going to have a lot of turnover on the roster anyway. The signs point to them being bad next year anyway, so that gives them 2 years to rebuild the defense.

Yeah, I don't think blowing up the defense is much of a risk when you're dead last two years in a row.

Fair enough. Not saying it's a deal breaker, just a consideration.

But wouldn't Harbaugh be more inclined to design an offense around Cutler? He ma be opposite of Trestman, but isn't that kind of what we need? I look at how he organized played for Kaepernick and feel that he is far more in tuned with the QB

The meatball fans are clamoring for Harbaugh, but that would be a poor hire, imo. It'd be the knee-jerk, "opposite of Trestman" hire.

Any hire would be a knee jerk hire compared to the enigma known as Trestman

I love the idea of Harbaugh and Rex together

would allow the media to shift attention away from cutler and any other players.

Right, personalities aside, it might be a really good combo on game day. Not sure how the press meetings would go tho. And I could see Rex turning the D around in 2 seasons and bolting for another HC opportunity.

It would also never happen.

I don't think a switch to a 3/4 defense would be that hard with this team. This is probably the best time to make the change if it's inevitably going to happen.

I thought I remember you guys saying that Rex Ryan has coached 4-3 defenses before

Yes, the 2000 Ravens were actually a 4-3 defense (nobody seems to remember) and he was on that staff. He also was the Ravens DC when they were still 4-3 in 2006 and switched to 3-4 in 2007-09. Throw in his dad as the DC of the 85 Bears, and Rex has been around the best two 4-3 defense in the history of football. He can coach any defensive scheme he wants and be damn good at it.

Now let's go get a [expletive] snack!

Just an FYI, Harbaugh (with Vic Fangio as DC, who I imagine would move with Harbaugh) ran a 3-4 at Stanford and runs a 3-4 now.
