What kind of contract does Locker have? I would imagine if he is tied to the Titans for any length of time, the Bears would probably have to take his contract, which reduces the chances of a decent draft pick.

The Titans turned down Locker's 5th year option for 2015, so I believe he's a FA after this season.

Jesus, sending a high pick to another team in order to get them to swallow Cutler's contract would be a historically stupid move in a league structured the way the NFL is. It would set the franchise back at least 5 years.

Cutler is going to be on the team next season.

For those who care, as a Titan fan, I'd love to see us deal for Cutler. A dream scenario would be to trade for Cutler (giving up a 4th or so) and then take Mariota with the 2nd (or maybe 1st) pick. That way we have Cutler as the starter for a couple years and then develop Mariota behind him til he's ready. Not sure Titans would do that, but I'd like it.

As for what I'd give for Cutler - no more than a 3rd and Mettenberger. I like Mett a lot, but I haven't seen enough from him to be comfortable that he can be a long term answer at QB. He only dropped in the draft due to the injury, though, and the talent is unquestionable. He has a huge arm, enough mobility not to get killed and has the frame coaches love. Mariota is simply better in just about every category (save arm strength), though, so as much as I like Mett, I want Mariota.

There's not a chance I'd entertain swapping firsts for Cutler. He's too short term an answer for that.

Id give Mettenberger and a 3rd consideration. If only because that 3rd pick would be about 70th or so. Id prefer 2nd, Mettenberger and a 5th for Cutler and our 4th.

If Emery is allowed to pay Cutler a contract that he didn't really earn and then essentially pay someone else to pay Cutler that contract, then he deserves to literally die.

You are being a gigantic meatball about all of this. Didnt earn his contract? What are you talking about?

I would give nothing to anyone. And i wouldnt give Cutler away like this. His mere presence makes life easier for everyone. Remember when teams used to play 8 in the box against us? THAT WAS A TON OF FUN.

Plenty people around the league thought it was a bad contract and it looks worse now. I don't have a problem with the contract, but Im on record of saying I would've franchised him. He definitely earned the deal with his performance in years past, but the season before getting that contract he missed several games as had previously been a problem. Based on the things Emery laid out Cutler had to do to get an extension, he didn't really do.

The 2nd is too valuable, I think - especially if we use the 1st to get Mariota after the trade.

Id think the strategy would be to trade #1 and get a Redskins like haul for the pick.

The tag was never an option unless you wanted to punt this season on purpose. You don't tag your qb. You can barely get away with tagging linemen, let alone a qb. It was never a practical option.

There is no reason to take Jay on with his contract if you are drafting Mariota. In today's NFL, you throw your young QBs into game action right away. Too much money bottled up QBs.

I'd take that in a heartbeat if somebody offered it to us. I'm not expecting somebody to overpay like that, though.

Not on the QB's rookie deal since the caps have been put in place. It's really one of those things for me where if we got Cutler without giving up Mett, I'd have no problem passing on Mariota and letting Mett develop behind Cutler. Or passing on Cutler and drafting Mariota to start year 1 would be fine.

In the scenario where we give up Mett to get Cutler, though, I'd want a long term QB option out of this offseason and there's nobody better for that than Mariota.

All that said, if I'm pursuing a veteran QB hard this offseason, it's RG3. No need for Mariota or Mett if we get RG3.

So Mike Shanahan was just on ESPN heaping all sorts of praise on Cutler (and RGIII), saying he still considers them both franchise QBs. Also threw in the fact that he would return to coaching given the right situation.

While he (obviously) wouldn't be my choice straight up, the number of coaches willing to take on Cutler at this point has to be pretty small.

Eh. Not really. Cutler is already seen as having a ticking clock on his way out of town. The next coach is probably in the best situation ant Bears coach with Cutler has been in. He wins with Cutler, he's a genius. Loses, Cutler is gone and he gets his own QB pick.

Basically the next coach will outlast Cutler. Either by being the best coach ever and outlasting beyond Cutler's retirement or by Cutler getting traded/cut.

They gave him the money because it was either that or risk going back to the [expletive] Desert of the Real.

I'm kind of in a [expletive] it, let's just hire Shanahan and see what he can do mindset

i don't know, he doesn't have a very good track record as of late.

I WANT TOM CLEMENTS. LIKE NOW.

Offer Ted Thompson ridiculous money to take the President and CEO of football operations title.

Let him bring in who he wants, hopefully, he brings Clements as HC. What about John Schneider as GM? He doesn't hold that technical title in Seattle, does he? It would be a promotion for him, right?

Let Thompson, Clements, and Schneider build the team.

Given the reports that Harbaugh is considered too pricy at HC I doubt the Bears are going to throw gobs of money at their problems 2 levels above HC
