Yea my wife listens to them on her drive to work. I guess he said yesterday he didn't think Jay was back. Obviously he isn't a sports guy but for whatever it's worth they have a stream of Bears players every year doing their Monday show (mostly kickers and long snappers) but I guess he could have a source... I mean if nocode could.

Could make sense with his Vandy roots.

I hope that's not the case. I'll deal with it if that's the way it goes down, but I really wanted to see Jay prove all of the doubters/haters wrong. I've had to defend him a lot being in Charger country and all of the haters from his Bronco days. I still defend him today, but I have had to include "he hasn't been good this year" with most of my defenses of him of late.

I suppose I could understand if Bears ownership prefers to clean the slate of coaching and the QB going forward, but to me the coaching staff is the most glaring issue with this team.

I wouldn't hate Shannahan. Selfishly I would love it for Jay's sake, but they have to be a bit more long term thinking than that. He's maybe 4th in my list.

I would live with it but would not think highly of the team's chances.

Yeah, I'm with you. Shanahan could maybe be respectable for a couple years. But I wouldn't expect this team to be a championship contender under him. And it would be just buying time til a new regime.

Basically. Plus Shannahan would probably be a GM/coach candidate and I think I'd rather keep those roles separate.

I'm liking Hue Jackson still but I think I'm really convincing myself Philbin would be a great OC for us if fired, but won't come work under another offensive coach, and it's not like our defense couldn't use help with a strong HC hire there.

I really want a re-tread coach, I think. And I think I want a defensive minded coach. Either way, whoever the coach is will have to come with a very strong coordinator on the opposite side of the ball. I can't believe I'm starting to like the thought of Rex Ryan coaching the Bears.

If Tennessee was an option (and obviously there's been speculation outside of the guy from the mix), how much would a pick swap and another low pick be of interest? I'm still not interested in moving Jay, but you'd possibly get a shot at Mariota at two. If not you'd get your pick of the litter otherwise or trade down to a team that wants Winston (no interest in him for me).

Not sure that's even realistic- the value chart puts the jump from 9 to 2 as about a mid-first value and that's probably underselling it's actual value when it gets traded.

I don't know about Rex. That whole hiring a strong OC coordinator worries me. Just like Lovie he has a long track record of not doing that.

What kind of contract does Locker have? I would imagine if he is tied to the Titans for any length of time, the Bears would probably have to take his contract, which reduces the chances of a decent draft pick.

I really just want Jay to win multiple SB either way so I can shove it in the meatballs face (sorry mom and dad). Preferably with the Bears but I'm so annoyed I won't be picky.

He should either be a FA or on the last year of his rookie deal and easily cut.

Probably what the Bears will have to do is convert a little more of his guaranteed into a signing bonus and eat a little more than the 4M they currently would.

The more I think about that tweet, the more I call BS.

If you're saving Cutler's health for a trade, why is he the backup? He should be inactive and Fales should be backup.

I'm basically treating it with the same suspicion we treated nocode.

I believed nocode from the outset.

Kubiak would basically be trying to replicate Shannahan without having to give FO control and having more years, so same thought but probably more palatable. If he brought back Wade Phillips with him as DC and brought Dennison as OC, it could be a good staff.

Yea but you weren't in treymons history of Lester post cuz you don't have an avatar, so your opinions will forever be struck from the pages of NSBB history.

I was watching Jax vs Tn last night and had the thought Cutler to TN made lots of sense given the whole Vandy thing. And, how long has he known? He's been wearing those Vandy hats for awhile. What will we get in return? And can we still jettison Trestman and co?

He's been wearing Vandy stuff, and returning to Nashville frequently, ever since he became a pro.

Huh? Why wouldn't we?

In my nightmares they force Emery and Trestman to play the season with the salary cap hit in a lame duck situation.

The Vandy thing can't be that big of a factor can it? Vandy football isn't that big. Are they going to suddenly start selling a bunch more tickets because of that alone?

It makes tons of sense personally for Jay, but it's not like he's a FA.

My nightmare is that but they keep all the other disgruntled vets around and BMarsh kills somebody.

given that they are one of the few teams where a deal could make sense, the Vandy thing could be enough of a factor to make a difference - meaning Jay would be more amenable to going there and the Titans could see a chance for a marketing boost. Most NFL markets are going to interpret Cutler as their new QB as a bad thing, or maybe the worst good case scenario. Maybe Tennessee would be more open to embracing him.

Posted

Tennessee was rumored to be first in line to try and sign Jay if the Bears let him become a free agent before this season. They've always made the most sense because of Cutler's ties to Nashville and Whisenhunt, who is a good QB guy and plays to veteran strenghts, but hasn't had a lot of success with young QBs.

But if Cutler does go to TN, don't expect that #2 pick to come back. I think best case you get their 2nd. I probably wouldn't accept any less (along with another pick).
