If Trestman is gone, you have to let Emery go. He can't pick another coach, and he cant do another draft.

Phillips has to go the way of Crane Kenny but I don't think the Bears will do that.

Ownership is gonna get involved. There were 10,000+ no shows last night.

Yeah Doug and OB said 10,549 now shows, I do think ownership will get involved but the Bears/NFL are still getting their money from the season ticket holders if they show up or not.

If the 10,000 fans that didn't come were going to spend $20 each, that's only $200,000. I am not sure if that is alarming enough for them to decide to eat $10m in contracts by cutting Trestman, Kromer, Tucker, DeCamilis, and possibly Emery, while paying another coaching staff at least $3m next year.

I'm sure it got their attention to some degree though.

Before this mess really got bad...

I thought only Tucker and Joey D were gone.

Now, I think most of the staff is gone at this point.

Emery is likely safe as is Phillips (unfort.)

Parking too as well as overall viewership and listening on the radio (ads).

But it's more about image than anything.

Yeah, which means he gets another HC pick. Which means more than likely he's here for another 3.

Gross.

NFL announces #Bears have selected Jay Cutler as team's Man of the Year, putting him in running for Walter Payton Man of the Year award.

He should win that based on his press conference last week alone.

Love it. The meatballs are gonna have an aneurysm.

I think offensively, we need better coaching, and a fast WR option...too easy to sit on our big WR/TE's, especially when they're playing gimpy. Need someone to stretch the field.

Defense obviously needs talent upgrades in addition to the coaching overhaul.

Isn't Wilson supposed to be that deep threat?

He's got pretty good speed but is definitely no burner. I'm thinking Eddie Royal, Johnny Knox type. Either of those guys in their prime (which is basically like 24-25 for those types) would open this offense so much.

This draft looks better for bigger WR, but I'm sure we can get one late still. Bonus points if he can return kicks.

I think the time has come for me to finally stop defending Cutler to my family and friends. He's still a top 15-20 NFL QB, but this situation is just toxic. Could he win a Super Bowl someday? Probably, but it would have to have everything else perfect. If they can get anything for him this offseason, I'd rather just see him go. Never thought I'd say that. [expletive] sports.

If that anything is a 3rd round pick they sure as [expletive] better not let him go.

On one hand, moving Cutler might be good for both he and the Bears. I'm the other had: Henry Burris.

I'd rather start with a new HC

If you don't trust your new GM to find a QB, then you've hired the wrong guy. Being satisfied with a QB that is clearly between 10-20 in the NFL with no real chance of being a top-5 QB, then you HAVE to have great talent around him and a great defense. That's the thing with Cutler, if he were on the Texans, wouldn't they be easily in the playoffs? But when it's basically all on him, it doesn't seem to be working well.

Being afraid to let Cutler go because there are a lot of QB situations worse than him is fine and totally a defensible position/argument, but I just don't know if that's a great reason to keep him around. Good is the enemy of great, right?

Yeah, if this is a troll move, I couldn't be more in favor of it. Good for the Bears.

I wonder what the reason is? Is he heavily involved with charity work that I'm not aware of? Or are the McCaskey's also against vaccinating children?

Knowing point two do you stand behind point one? In the world of alternatives I still trust Emery drafting and hiring a coach more than Phillips hiring a GM. The latter has much more potential to set us back in a significant way IMO.

I remember a few years back a story about Cutler being really involved with juvenile diabetes but not advertising it at all.

It's quite possible Emery is the wrong guy. That is besides the point.

Keeping Cutler the next couple years does not prevent you from finding a great QB sometime in the next couple years. Letting him go does not make it easier to find a great QB. You work with Cutler now and keep looking for ways to improve, including potential Cutler replacements.

I love Tyler Lockett of K-State.

He's probably the best of the bunch but as such may get overvalued for teams looking for that skillset. It's a much better spot to be in if you need any type of receiver.

Exactly. The only possible way Cutler holds you back is by helping you win too many games. But I don't see s Manning or Luck, so it's moot.

this is a pretty emphatic no

he's earning $15m more than Fitzpatrick, who can easily be argued has outproduced him...without the benefit of hindsight, try cutting $13m in players off the Texans and then look at their roster with Cutler

saying Cutler's a top-20 QB and it's not his fault the defense is so bad misses a huge component of the problem; similarly productive QBs like Orton, Fitzpatrick, Hill usually don't take up much cap space at all and you're left with so much more capability to fill in holes

And to be specific on the Texans here, If they had Cutler, they probably HAD to trade Andre or something to be able to extend Watt. I don't think they would've been able to give Watt that deal if Cutler was with the Texans on the same deal.

People keep talking about fast WRs or someone who can go down the field is what Bears need. I'm in the camp that they need a WR that has great route running and get separation. Doesn't matter if he runs a 4.3 or he's Jerry Rice slow. That's the problem with the Marshall/Jeffery/Bennett. They got great size, can go up for the ball, and most of the time... very good hands, but Cutler is either throwing high or in a tight window because the DB is hanging on them.

they need a quick route runner type, but fast is just a short hand for that. Speed alone won't work, but I think it is a very important thing for them to look at given the lack of speed everywhere else on offense.

Running good routes is just another way to be faster than your competition. Call it quick or anything you want, but vertical separation is what's being talked about. I would agree you can't just get a track star.

Good for him, that's pretty cool. He's an extremely interesting/different guy.
