Do people not understand how contracts work? Stanton has the option to collect $325MM from Jeff Loria if he so chooses. Loria does not have the option to stop paying Stanton after 6 years. Loria did not do anything unscrupulous in this case and the criticisms of him in this case are idiotic.

You post like you have fits.

Im having a fit right now.

Did another college football ranking get released?

It's not that Stanton has the option, it's the fact that Loria is smugly gallivanting around bragging to people about how they're only paying him $107 million and there's no way they'll pay him the rest, like he really pulled the wool over everyone's eyes. It also gives off this vibe that makes him seem like he's calling Stanton an idiot for accepting it, almost like how they called the Miami politicians stupid for giving them a stadium

I know some don't like what he brings to the table but he's only 28, has been up and down enough that he's worth a gamble on the upside of his talent (and wouldn't cost much because of the down year), and if they decide to use Baez to get a bigger piece would allow the Cubs to move Alcantara back to 2B where his bat plays a whole lot better (and where I'm sure his defense is better, too)

I have no problem with taking a chance on Rasmus for the right price. Yeah, he's been up and down, but he has two 4 WAR seasons and as you said, is only 28. Maybe he'd take less from us for a chance to get back at the Cards, lol.

Gammons just tweeted something about Baltimore moving towards getting him.

The power is intriguing. Always seemed like a guy people expect more of. Doesn't provide much in the OBP department and he is certainly no stranger to the strikeout.

Rasmus is basically all over the map. But his downside is what we can expect from Chris Coghlan. His upshot is a hell of a lot better than that. He shouldn't cost too much in years or dollars, so the risk is minimal.

Yeah, bring him in. Let Maddon see if he can figure out how to squeeze the most from him.

Based on what I've heard about his time down here, Maddon sounds like the kind of manager that would work well for Rasmus. He seems like a guy who's more likely to respond to a hug than a kick in the ass, which is all it ever seems the Cards were willing to give him when captain hard ass Chris Carpenter and Pujols were the tone setters in their locker room.

I think Rasmus is a potentially ideal buy low candidate for the Cubs, on a one-year deal preferably (which he might prefer anyway). Even as bad as he was last season his numbers were better than what we got in CF, and he's already had some very strong years at only 28. This environment could be good for him, and he surely knows his chances are running out. He's a lefty bat with power, can play an adequate CF or solid RF, and isn't allergic to walks. He obviously has warts (the Ks, the Dad, the hair) but for where this team is, he seems like a good risk.

I like him because he hates the Cardinals and for no other reason. I really don't think Theo wants the headache he brings.

How did the White Sox sign Cabrera over him? I can't believe the league allowed it.

Yeah, Rosenthal tweeted something that he probably wasn't going to win the grievance.

He might be a good fit for Maddon, because Maddon loves his platoons and matchup influenced lineups. Rasmaus needs to be protected against lefties where he has a .213/.287/.361/.648 career split.
