RT @Ken_Rosenthal: Sources: Barring late change, Lester choosing between #Cubs, #SFGiants.

Here we go!

Ok, I would officially be pissed off if we lost at this point. The only acceptable teams to lose to were: Boston (his history w/team, etc...) and anyone who completely overpaid (Dodgers or Yankees most likely).

FINISH THIS, THEO!

Seth Levinson just told me that it is untrue that Lester is deciding between the Cubs and Giants the rest are still in #ESPN #Siriusxm

Seth Levinson
Lester gets one of the rooftop buildings as his personal locker room to finish the deal

Of course he's going to say that to crank up the leverage. He's probably going to claim there are 4-5 mystery teams

Considering it's Bowden, that definitely means it's true.

Bowden is just parroting what Lester's agent is saying. I trust Rosenthal over Lester's agent just because the agent is going to try to keep as many teams as possible in until the end.

Far be it from me to stick up for Bowden, but unless Rosenthal's source is Lester himself or someone between Lester and his agent, why would that be more reliable information on a team being out of contention for his services?

More likely, the source for both is Levinson and it's all politicking to get that one last offer that blows everyone away.

Rosenthal's entire reputation pretty much hinges on this type of stuff, so I have to think it was a pretty good source who told him that.

Geez, get the hopes up, only to see the Dodgers get him for 5 billion or some [expletive].

I don't keep track of such things, but how often does Rosenthal report something that ends up untrue? Without any research whatsoever, it doesn't seem like it's very often.

Rosenthal's entire reputation pretty much hinges on if he's right if he says "Lester will sign/has signed with X", not so much for "X & Y currently lead for Lester".

With that out of the way...

I don't think Rosenthal would have said it if he didn't have cause, and a denial from his agent would be expected regardless. If you take the Henry visit to Lester's home as a last ditch effort, the pieces fit.

Rosenthal used "sources," as in multiple, too.

2nd round picks aren't worth much anyway.

I could give a crap about the pick itself, but the financial flexibility having it affords them in doing what they did last year and using the extra slot money to get additional high upside guys later is the big downside of it for me. I'd just as soon avoid that decision altogether and get Lester and be done with it.

Julie DiCaro just got completely suckered on twitter by the fake Rosenthal account saying the Cubs got Lester... :P

When it comes to these "some guy said" Tweets, is fake Rosenthal any less credible than real Rosenthal?

Yes.

We only saved like 200K last year in the 2nd round, and that was with a senior. To get big savings for later guys, you just wind up wasting your 2nd round pick instead.
