Assuming 13.3% tax rate in CA and 5% in IL and 140 million, SF would have to outbid the Cubs by about 11.5 million to make contracts equal

I've never heard of Chicago/Cook/Illinois having an advantageous tax situation over someone else

Well, they have a new governor who will likely eliminate taxes for anyone making over a million dollars.

Illinois has a pretty low state income tax IIRC

I think he's just thinking of always being up against like the Heat, Magic, Rockets, etc. for the Bulls.

Sox official had “no comment” when asked if Sox were still in on Lester

Illinois has lower State Income Taxes, but much higher Property Taxes that will even that out. At least close enough that someone making $140 million wont care.

I wonder if that's directly related to no more steroids and guys having a tougher time catching up to inside FBs, especially late in the season.

obviously not wanting to pry too much bc who the hell am i, but i asked the FIL if i should be prepared to drink away my sorrows tomorrow after work or if the cubs are still in it...

"Still in very much so"

i realize that this is worthless as far as whether cubs are in line to get him, but at the very least, at least we know the cubs aren't not going to get him for certain.

No real evidence yanks are in on lester. If they go for big starter, they prefer scherzer.

I really think Lester is gonna get a nice bump in performance by going to the NL.

Anyone have an idea if the elite AL pitchers going to the NL get even more of a bump than is typical from the league change?

Not scientific, but eyeballing leaderboards there's an improvement but doesn't seem to be a huge peripheral leap. This is what I can come up with for candidates in recent years: Greinke, Halladay, Fister, Gio Gonzalez, Cliff Lee
