Jake Arrieta, some free agent, Kyle Hendricks, Jacob Turner, Dan Straily

Do you project that as great, solid, average, bad, or horrendous?

I've decided to follow TT and say that all rotations are functionally average.

Castro and Wood to the Phillies for Hamels. Sign Scherzer to giant huge mammoth deal. Trade Jackson somewhere.

I think the FO will go hard after Lester. Yeah, it goes against what they believe in by betting a lot of money on a pitcher post 30, but I still think it happens. They also don't seem like the type of people to spend big just because there's no other position to spend the money on, but I think this will be the exception. Theo also loves anything Red Sox. Castillo is the only free agent position player between now and opening day 2015 I see them willing to go $10 million on (in AAV or total). The bullpen is good; they could literally do nothing to it and it'd be fine next year. The lineup will mostly be set by this September, and you add a monster to it again in May.

Lester, Arrieta, Hendricks then Turner/Wood/Straily/Wada battle it out for the other spots in the spring. I'm assuming we trade Jaxon in the offseason and eat most of the salary.

Two of Lester/Scherzer/Shields with Arrieta, Turner, Hendricks filling out the rest.

i think this is what Theo and Jed have in mind, but I think they will sign one free agent ace and trade for another.

If I had to make a pick I'd go with this as well, though I wouldn't be surprised to see one of the Jaxons in the FA spot.

Arrieta, Masterson, Wood, Jackson, Doubront

Edit:

I know it's boring. I think it's what happens though.

I really think they're going to make an earnest run at Lester, especially since he's been traded.

Man this would be awesome

Scherzer

Hamels

Arrieta

Hendricks

Turner

Russell, SS

Baez, 2B

Rizzo, 1B

Bryant, 3B

Soler, RF

Alcantara, CF

Coughlan, LF

Castillo, C

Not going to do the pen which is loaded with quality arms. Depending on how quickly Russell and Bryant come up, and how quickly all the young guys adjust to the bigs that roster has 90 wins written all over it.

Poor Wada. Not even being listed as one of the extras by anyone. Meanwhile, he's pitching about as well as Hammel did for us if you look at an average of FIP and xFIP.

Does anyone have a definitive idea on the option situations for some of these guys?

I believe it's:

Arrieta - No

Jackson - No

Wood - No

Turner - No

Doubront - No

Hendricks - Yes

Wada - ? (leaning yes if we still have team control)

Straily - ?

I think it's safe to say we won't be going after a Hammels/Feldman/Maholm kind of guy this off-season. We've got enough cost controlled league average-ish with upside guys that there's no reason to spend the money. Doubront/Straily /Turner will be plenty for Bosio to work on.

Mat Latos is on my radar as a guy we could pick-up at the trade deadline next year. It will be his walk year. Some injury concerns, but what pitcher doesn't have some. He'll be 27 almost 28 next year, which makes him a good extension candidate as well. All of this of course requiring the Reds are out of it and he's healthy/pitching well.

I am intrigued by his note on Wada though.

I don't know why I didn't think he'd already have Straily/Doubront.

The Wada thing is interesting though. If he's able to force an opt out, then he needs to be the one leaving the rotation for Turner and/or Doubront, as much as that would suck for him. In August/September that is.
