I can definitely see the bidding for Lester getting high and the front office drawing their normal line in the sand, but in that case I think they really push on Maeda.

I'm kinda there, too. Would love to see Lester + Maeda, but I can understand if the bidding gets too high on either that they would pass. I would be fine with one of them and a McCarthy as the back-up option.

Use some money on Castillo then use Alcantara & one of the end of rotation guys listed below in a trade like the Gio Gonzalez or Quintana deals. I mentioned in the other thread that I really like Kyle Gibson so I'll use him as an example, but you can call him 'Young Established Trade Target' if you don't like him. You avoid the investment in 30+ SP but still add 2 real good pitchers.

I know it's boring. I think it's what happens though.

 

Masterson is not very good and it's not like it's some crazy bad luck. His velocity is down significantly. I really don't think (and hope they won't) they'll go in that direction.

 

I'd honestly rather start one of our existing Bosio rehab projects.

I think you can trade Wood and get something decent. Ejax, eh. Don't know what to do with him but we have enough young guys that deserve a shot in the rotation that I don't want Ejax blocking development of anyone.

 

I agree with a lot that has been posted. Sign the one big guy and then we already have tons of guys to give shots to.

I'm sure someone would take a chance on Jackson at 2/10 or so, we're reaching the point where so many 3-5 rotation guys have been accumulated I expect it to happen.

That doesn't make a lot of sense. The MO of the front office has been to grab pitchers who are undervalued due to anomalously high ERAs due to bad luck on balls in play, bad luck with runners on base, etc. I don't see why they'd just give Jaxon away to pitch two free years for another club.

he's just really good at sucking while still striking out more and walking fewer guys than you'd expect for his level of terribleness.

I think the Cubs will go after Lester, with a competitive offer but fail. Then I think they go after a pair of arms.

 

Arrieta, Maeda, Turner, Hendricks, McCarthy. I think Wood will be around and have a chance to earn a spot. Straily and Doubront will compete too with Doubront going to the pen.

Brandon McCarthy does nothing for me and I think Lester will cost too much. Is Tseng too far away?
