Wow the asking price really dropped out. Last I heard they were asking the Orioles for Rodriguez. I thought they might have landed a better prospect.

Bryan Morris to the Marlins for pick 39. If that's all it takes, we need to offer up Blake Parker to get one.

Yeah, Morris looks pretty bad.

The [expletive], Morris isn't good. What are the Marlins doing?

I want in on that trade market.

Does any one know if the Marlins can trade their other Competitive Balance pick (#36?) They didn't sign their Comp Bal pick from last season and that one's compensation for that.

Edit: Never mind. davell says no in another thread.

The Astros have signed first baseman Jon Singleton to a five-year extension that will pay him $10MM in guaranteed money, Yahoo Sports’ Jeff Passan reports (Twitter links). The contract contains three team option years that could increase the overall value of the deal to $35MM.

They will also promote him for tomorrow's game.

What is Singleton's appeal? He seems to be extremely similar to his predecessor Chris Carter. I mean I guess I could see the guy putting up a Nick Swisher line, but I'd expect more from a guy people consider to be the best 1B prospect in the game.

A max contract value of 8Y/35M seems awful low for a guy with an OPS north of .900 in AAA at age 22 (and he also put up one of nearly .900 in AA at age 20 before an off year last year). Surprised he'd take that.

The Marlins dumped their draft pick so they could sign Kevin Gregg, lol.

That whole admitting to being addicted to pot probably deflates the value a bit.

Hahahhahaha. What a franchise! Still salty they have titles. Proof that sports aren't fair.

Dramatization of Jon Singleton's bout with marijuana addiction:

Trevor Cahill DFA'd by Arizona. I'm somewhat interested here. Even if we have to pick up some of the contract.

Agreed. His FIP is more than a full run lower than his ERA and he is still just 26.

Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers indicated Monday that Trevor Cahill has agreed to go to the minor leagues once he clears waivers.

The move to designate Cahill for assignment makes a little more sense now. Cahill can technically refuse a minor league option and would still get the around $16.9 million owed to him, but it sounds like he's agreed to work out his issues in the minors. The righty has actually pitched well since being moved to the bullpen (3.04 ERA, 27 strikeouts over 23 2/3 innings), but he'd return to starting in the minors.

I don't see how someone like Cahill will clear waivers given his age and pedigree, regardless of his salary. Also, couldn't a team be a douche and claim him just to block them from moving him to the minors?

Meh...those BB totals are pretty brutal, don't think our FO will show interest.

Josh Byrnes just got fired. Won't shock me if he winds up here with some sort of new title. No idea what it does to the Pads in season plans.

Jed Hoyer sure did set up that organization for sustained success.
