    Matt LaPorta has retired from baseball. The former first-round pick never panned out in the majors and has now decided to open up 18 Pie Five Pizza places throughout Tampa beginning in early 2015. LaPorta, 29, hit just .238/.301/.393 over parts of four seasons in the big leagues.

    Jon Morosi@jonmorosi The Giants had interest in Jason Hammel during the offseason, so don't be surprised if they emerge as a suitor on the trade market.
