  1. RotoWorld had a mention of Vogelbach yesterday. They mentioned he was really having a tough go of things against lefthanders this season. I don't know where to look for previous season splits. Has he had trouble with lefties in the past or is this new?
  2. They can just put Alex Wood back in the rotation. ETA looks like they were already preparing to do that before this happened. He's in AAA and made a couple starts Harang and Santana's starts have been pretty ugly over the past month.
  3. I hadn't heard about this 'wrong crowd' stuff before. Am I out touch? Is Law offbase? Anyone have any insight into this?
  4. Don't know how accurate he is, but Kaplan said on Sports Talk Live last night that he hears Samardzija wants 6/135 (or something like that). Wow. See you later Jeff.
  5. How about Nick Franklin? Even if the Cubs don't specifically want him, a number of other teams expressed interest in him earlier in the year. 3-way?
  6. With Sweeney coming back soon, it wouldn't surprise me if Coghlan was dealt. Not that the return for him alone would be all that much.
  7. With family and close friends beside him at home, Eagles pitcher Carson Sands was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the fourth round with the 109th overall pick. The left-hander spent much of the day texting with FSU assistant coach and recruiting coordinator Mike Martin Jr., but at the end of the day he decided to forgo his dream of playing for the hometown Seminoles and instead will begin his career as a professional baseball player. http://www.tallahassee.com/story/sports/college/fsu/baseball/2014/06/06/florida-state-baseball-mlb-draft-north-florida-christian/10074481/ No mention of $$.
  8. Eddie Butler getting called up to make the start for the Rockies on Friday.
  9. Does any one know if the Marlins can trade their other Competitive Balance pick (#36?) They didn't sign their Comp Bal pick from last season and that one's compensation for that. Edit: Never mind. davell says no in another thread.
  10. That has zero chance of happening. I think the Cubs can get one - I think they'll insist, in fact, as they'll need a guy who's close to the big leagues. One of those two, Harvery or Rodriguez (not both) and Sisco is a realistic deal, with maybe a decent A-ball prospect to pad it out. Throw them Russell or Wright as part of the deal. I still like that deal. I don't have a preference between Gausman and Bundy, but I really like Harvey over ERod. I think the Cub's could throw in Christian Villanueva also. Machado is moving to SS next year, and Villanueva would give them a cost effecient option at 3rd. (Bryant deservedly gets the bump to AAA in the scenerio too). Gausman, Harvey, Sisco, and Mike Yastrzemski for Samardzija and Christian Villanueva might get it done for me. Not that Jed and Theo take any of my calls. I'd still like the Rockies to top that. I think the basic framework here is solid, and I doubt the Cubs could do better than getting Gausman and Harvey as the centerpieces of any Shark deal. But I certainly wouldn't throw in Villanueva if Yastrzemski was the 4th piece - Villanueva is certainly the better prospect between those two. I threw Yaz out there because of the Red Sox and Vanderbilt connections. Just trying to pad it out.

  12. The Iowa game is being televised on CBS Sports Network.
  13. What's the knock on Zimmer? Just questions about his power should he move to a corner or is there more?
  14. Is Daniel Norris and another arm aiming too high?
  15. Just homework. Nick Faleris mentioned Nola to us at 4 with a 750-1M discount seems appealing. As the last to get on neverdraftpitchersearlyville, I like it too. -750K is roughly 5th pick money. -1M is roughly 6th pick money. I was expecting a bigger discount. I wonder what kind of underslot they're looking at with Pentecost.
  16. Is it okay to post about Samardzija again? http://joefrisaro.mlblogs.com/2014/05/13/should-marlins-make-run-at-samardzija/ If the Marlins think they can still be a surprise club in 2014, they should give every consideration to making a blockbuster trade. Think big. And there is a big arm that could be had for a hefty price. Jeff Samardzija of the Cubs is a target for a number of teams in contention. Perhaps the Marlins should join the list. The Marlins have some attractive arms in their system that could be dangled. Save parting with Andrew Heaney, their No. 1 prospect, Miami would be wise to weigh what the Cubs would be asking.
  17. How much does the TJS actually delay Hoffman? A lot of the college arms don't see many innings their first summer. He misses a couple of months to start next season. And then he's not quite as sharp for a couple after that - assuming all went well. Is that a huge deal to his development schedule? You guys know a lot more about this than I do, so please set me straight. Also before the slotting system he would have held out until August 15th anyway. So again just a few missed months of game time.
  18. Technically, the answer is yes. That said, the comp pick would certainly hold more value and other things would likely need to be included in the deal. Not to mention, if the Yankees are spending 15-20 mill on IFA this year, as it seems, I doubt there's enough IFA left over to entice another team to blow by their initial budget this year. Just my opinion though, as it IS possible the Yankees are spending on guys others don't think of as highly as they do. Thanks.
  19. Rules question. Can the Cubs trade some of their International Signing Pool money for some team's Competitive Balance Draft Pick?
  20. I can't see them being interested in Barney with his age, service time and salary. Unless they were flipping him right away. I'd prefer to hold onto Alcantara. How about Vogelbach, Vitters, and Corey Black?
  21. How about Darwin Barney to the Tigers to fill in for Jose Iglesias?
  22. Honestly? I'd rather just keep Barney. There's got to be a limit to how many of these AAA fringey pitchers we can make adequate use of. Given the choice, Ramirez seems like he has a bit more upside. Both of those guys are already on the Yankees 40 man roster. I'd prefer someone who the Cubs didn't have to instantly put on the 40. With upside of course.
  23. ABTY - The Yankees/Barney stuff as I'm sure everyone has figured out, has serious legs. He'd compete for the 2B job but hearing the Yanks love him as a utility MI helping spell Jeter and also facing tough lefties instead of Johnson. The names I've heard the most are Nik Turley and Jose Ramirez, not likely to land both...
