The Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies, Mariners, Orioles and Cubs were all said to have private workouts scheduled for Castillo, and the Astors were said to be trying to schedule one as well.

Damn you, John Jacob VIII!

If the choice is him or a Lester/ Maeda, I'm choosing pitching. If they can get him and Lester/Meada bully for us.

I really think the Yankees are going to blow everyone out of the water with both Maeda and Castillo.

Could he sign a one-year deal just for the end of this season for a contender? I mean, maybe one would way overpay and then he would just be a FA in a few months. Is this even possible?

I don't why he'd do that when he has teams wanting to guarantee him multiple years and probably around $30 million minimum.

I mean, I guess it's technically possible. But the guy hasn't played organized baseball in quite some time and a bad month or so could really decrease his value. I see no chance of it happening.

Little bit of an update, sounds like the Phillies are out and this will be over pretty soon:

Scott Lauber of the Boston Herald hears Cuban outfielder Rusney Castillo is "moving quickly toward a decision."

Castillo is thought to be drawing heavy interest from the Cubs, Red Sox, Yankees, and Tigers, along with a few other deep-pocketed teams. The Phillies were in the running at one point, but Jim Salisbury of CSNPhilly.com calls them a "longshot" now to sign Castillo. The highly-athletic 27-year-old is capable of playing infield or outfield and is expected to command something similar to the seven-year, $42 million contract that Yasiel Puig signed with the Dodgers.

Keep in mind for the Yankees to match a 50 mill offer, they're paying 75 mill with their luxury tax hit.

Correct. I just think the Tigers first, and then the Red Sox, are going to be too much. I hope I'm wrong, would love to take the chance on him.

i think we'd meet the dollars but not the years. he'll be 28 next june, hard to see anyone willing lock him in until age 35

I wonder if he'll prefer a shorter term deal like Cespedes so he can cash in before he starts to decline?

If I'm him, I think I just take the $50 plus million. But I see what you're saying.

@SahadevSharma Hearing bidding for Rusney Castillo is wild, above $55M. Cubs don't appear to see value in that. May be battle between Detroit & Boston.

We need an OFer. I prefer him based on age and his ability to play multiple positions. We've got plenty of money to spend too, so that's not an excuse. The FA market is awful, basically Melky or Markakis, if Baltimore lets him get away. I'd take the risk here, money be damned.

That's about how I feel. There's not much to go on.

Yeah, I fail to see the craaaaaaazy part of that previous statement. 55Mil+, assuming for 5 years is about what I expected. If it's only 4 years, that's still doable. Probably going to pay someone lesser similar annually (maybe not as many years) if they sign an OF.
