Iowa is so freaking' mentally weak. This is unbelievable.

I am really afraid we can't keep this pace up.

Well I didn't expect that to end well (for Iowa fans at least.) Be nice if that was the end to blowing leads and not closing out games thing that we do.

Well, if there was year Iowa was gonna get us in Champaign, this was it. But it was an exciting game, at least. Maybe Iowa can win there again in another 14 years or so.

In related news, I can't think of a player I've has a more love/hate feeling about than Tracy Abrams. But it's mostly hate.

If you guys want to go on a hot streak and finish at .500 (losing in Iowa City of course) that'd be neat.

I said before the game that given the history in Champaign, I didn't give a [expletive] how ugly it was, just win somehow. And they did. The first 15 minutes was basketball porn. Then the next 18 or so were a nightmare. But as soft as they looked for a long stretch, they showed some stones down the stretch.

First win in that pit of nightmares since 1999. 2nd since 1987. Illinois is alone in last place while we're 2 losses clear of 4th place. Praise God and thank you to the flab five.

The first half was a real dichotomy, but the second half was some of the best basketball I've seen in a while. Which surprises me because Illinois has just been awful lately.

Prior to the game I had this filed in the loss column, and was not expecting a close contest. I expect that the next couple years (following this one, which is an ugly transition year for us) will see Iowa and Illinois playing a lot of close and meaningful games for the first time in a long while.

I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Without turning into sulley, I said all week that a desperate Illinois team with a week off in that building with that history against Iowa was going to shoot well.

I didn't expect Iowa to build a 21 point lead in the first 15 minutes and didn't expect them to give it up that quickly. I was completely convinced Illinois was going to win when they got up 5 and I'll take any win we can get in Champaign.

The Illini aren't a good team but they aren't this bad. They are just the most cursed team ever and nothing goes their way ever.

Blah. Worst offensive performance of the season + Yogi shooting 8-9 = IUs ownership of UM for the entire history of both programs continuing*

Knew we'd freaking win. Just pisses me off more that we list to Nebraska with a huge lead. Still need to beat probably Ohio state and Iowa while not slipping up again against a crap team.

this Illini season feels like hat Iowa's last season was described to be... lots of losses where they're in the game and cannot close to save their lives... maybe next year with the added depth and experience the Illini can be a top-15 type team like Iowa is this year

We need to start letting the freshman close games. They need to learn and this season is lost anyways.

Not really sure who is left on our schedule that you can truly qualify as a crap team given how mucked up the middle of the pack is right now. Teams like Nebraska, Northwestern and Penn State have shown some life. If we can win out at home and get at least two more road wins, that would put us at 10-8, 20-11 heading into the Big Ten tournament. But I don't see this team being consistent enough to finish 6-3. Probably 9-9 or 8-10 is the more likely scenario.

Not really crap teams, as much as crap losses. Losing to Nebraska up 16 late in the 1st half. Losing to NW at home is a crap loss. Gotta return the favor to both teams. And can't slip up vs. Penn St at home or at Purdue.

I had pretty much given up hope of IU making the tournament, but it is still possible. I wouldn't say it is likely though. Here is how I see it.

Away games remaining: Minnesota, Purdue, Northwestern, Wisconsin, Michigan

At first glance, despite wins against both teams at home, I don't like IU's chances at Wisconsin or Michigan. Can they find a way to win two against Minnesota, Purdue, NW? Minnesota is always a tough place to play. Purdue isn't very good, but the rivalry factor pretty much ensures a close game (I don't think IU will win by 30 again). The NW game, I don't even know anymore.

Best chances for road wins in my mind are PU and NW.

Home games remaining: PSU, Iowa, Ohio St, Nebraska

At first glance I want to say they have to win all of them. If so, that would be a 10-8 record (assuming 2 road wins) which should put them in. Dropping a home game, or not winning 2 road games would put them at 9-9. In that case, I think they would need a BTT win at least.

Who the hell knows, nothing would surprise me at this point. IU could just as easily finish 10-8 or 7-11.

The issue is they haven't played back-to-back games that are good enough to win consistently. Only time they had a 2-game streak in conference, they put up 47 at home against NW. Then they pulled out a tough win vs. Illinois....and lost to Nebraska. If they can get hot, they can really put some wins together. But I honestly don't know if this team is capable.

I'd like to see them get in, because they could use the experience w/such a young team. But they'll be 1-and-done anyway as they'll undoubtedly would be in a toss 7-10, 8-9 game at best.

officiating in college basketball is an embarrassment.

you act like you're surprised every single game. it's always awful, so the good teams gameplan for it. if the refs are going to let you flop, flop like crazy
