FWIW, Saints fans weren't all too happy with Carmichael this season. Main reasons cited have been he's TOO pass heavy 65-35 pass/run ratio. Not using Sproles enough. Too many sacks allowed because of predictable play calling.

I think part of that ratio was that Saints was behind a ton this year (compared to last couple seasons). Still it can't be that much higher than the past few seasons. I do agree they didn't use Sproles enough.

My choices are Clements or McCoy. Nobody else really interests me, maybe Chip Kelly?

Chip Kelley is apparently interviewing with the Bills, Browns and Eagles. No mention of the Bears.

I'm a little disappointed in that. To me, he has the highest upside. Although admittedly he comes with lot of risk as well.

Yeah, I'm focused on those two as well. I think I'd actually prefer McCoy.

Steve Rosenbloom wrote an article (behind the paywall) about how the Bears should get Mike Holmgren. Then this morning, Gary Myers from the NY Daily News was on Mully and Hanley, and he said he'd be much more interested in Holmgren than Gruden. Mully agreed.

What's the level of interest in Holmgren? Personally, I'm still anti re-tread coaches.

Full list of Bears opponents for 2013:

Home:

Detroit Lions

Green Bay Packers

Minnesota Vikings

Dallas Cowboys

New York Giants

New Orleans Saints

Baltimore Ravens

Cincinnati Bengals

Away:

Detroit Lions

Green Bay Packers

Minnesota Vikings

Philadelphia Eagles

Washington Redskins

St. Louis Rams

Cleveland Browns

Pittsburgh Steelers

Looks like most of the tough non-division games will be at home. Redskins appear to be the toughest non-division road game.

I was listening this morning too. I got the feeling that if Myers was asked to choose between Holmgren and one of the up-and-comers like McCoy or Clements, he would have went with an up-and-comer. I agree with him that I would prefer Holmgren over John Gruden though.

Personally, I worry that Holmgren cannot keep up with a head coaching gig any more. I would pass.

I am hoping to find a coach we can keep for a long time. At 64, I'd worry that Holmgren would be a short term fix. If you hire him, you're almost hoping that he's a guy to develop a head coach for you down the road while righting the ship in the short term.

People do realize that Clements is 58, right? Holmgren is only a few years older. I'm thinking McCoy is the better choice.

Thats what I am thinking too. Leaning McCoy now.

Come on, 58 isn't that old. The lure of Clements' success with Favre and Rodgers is too strong -- he's my top choice.

Yes, but Clements would have his first head job while Holmgren was doing that 20 years ago and has accomplished much more. Not really comparable, IMO.

You could also argue that this a fairly old team and, with such a short window, you can't be worrying too much about whether a guy will still be here 5 years down the line.

That'd be a bad argument. Emery isn't building just for the quick win. He's building for "sustained success". He said that numerous times in his press conference.

this is the NFL, there's not much difference between winning now and building for later. the only players you are allowed much time to develop are quarterbacks, and Clements is #1 with them. he can develop Cutler's successor while Cutler is winning super bowls.

i can dream.

i an tell you at the very least that Green Bay doesn't want to lose Clements, and they definitely don't want to lose him to the Bears.

Phil Emery to @WBBMNewsradio when asked directly about Tom Clements: "We have to wait that out a little bit."

Hope the Vikings make that wait a lot shorter.

my top candidates are:

1. Tom Clements

2. Pete Carmichael

3. Mike McCoy

McCoy, then Clements, not sure who I like after that to be honest.

Well that's fine, but the fact remains that our best players are at or past their prime, so if he actually believes that (and his first draft seems pretty bad so far), he needs to focus on the famous "dual fronts." This team is built to win now. I'm not necessarily arguing for Holmgren, but the NFL is much more of a win-now league than the MLB or NBA, particularly for a team that just went 10-6.

why mccoy? sell me on him. i understand that he's flexible, but what do you think his vision would be?

I'm highly valuing that flexibility. We've had such rigid, unimaginative coaches in the past, imo, and that ability to make the most out of what you have is important to me.

I love what Clements has done, but also, he has a lot of talent, so I have questions about what he'd do to make this offense work. But I do like him as well, and would be thrilled if he was hired.
