Devin Hester ‏@D_Hest23

Let me make myself clear the reason why I feel like retiring has nothing to do with Lovie Smith Getting fired.

Bears requested permission to interview Cowboys special teams coach Joe DeCamillis for their head coaching vacancy. Very respected coach

Does anyone know anything about McCoy in terms of what type of offense he runs, tendencies, and stuff like that?

Why is he being talked about as such a hot candidate?

He took Kyle Orton and make him a near 4000 yard passer. Then he changed the offense completely to fit Tebows mess. Consistent running game for all his teams. I think his best attribute is being to use his players to best fit their strengths.

I mean...I guess. There was nothing really impressive about that offense with Tebow.

And this year the Broncos have Peyton Manning, so, yea.

The point is though he made it work. Everyone knew they were running with Tebow and they still led the league in rushing...and when they needed to throw late Tebow was able to move the ball in the air. And Peyton is not the OC. He's not making up the playbook. And McCoy gets credit for developing Thomas and Decker for them being able to contribute with Manning after basically a non developmental season last year.

@BearReport: #Bears Emery on offensive line, says he used STAT Inc. and Pro Football Focus to objectively evaluate Chicago's front five

Agreed, no interest in them.

He talked a lot about stats inc. The guy is a stathead. Makes me feel good.

I also truly believe that Jake Long is a Chicago Bear.

I believe more special teams coaches should be considered for HC jobs. Often fiery guys & the only assistant coach who deals w entire roster

Look at John Harbaugh. Heck of a coach. Special teamers coaches have to get most out of bottom half of the roster

It really depends on who comes with him. If a ST coach brings in the Saints QB coach for OC and a good DC, I'm game. Thanks probably pretty unlikely though.

Let me start by saying that I do not follow the NFL that much. I was at a party this afternoon where there was a lot of talk of Lovie being fired. Not that anyone was saying that he should have been retained, there was a couple of guys who were saying that he was handicapped by Angelo's poor drafting. I am somewhat aware of the Bears lack of production from early round draft picks. My question is this, is this all on the GM making poor decisions on who to draft? or is there some responsibility on the coaching staff to develop young players to become NFL players? I understand that the NFL is not the MLB and first rounders should hit no matter what, but when evaluating Lovie, do all the failed draft picks have to be somewhat his responsibility also?

Yes. It's partly on him. He got a lot more say so in personnel moves after getting to the Super Bowl in 2006. Angelo did a terrible job, but failed picks on the defensive side of the ball have Lovie's fingerprints all over them. They were all "his type" of players that fit in his defensive scheme. Often times, they picked these players over offensive players (aka linemen). He also is probably mostly responsible for bringing in failed players like Archuleta, Gaines Adams, Hester on offense. But at the same time, you have to give him credit for guys like Jennings, Melton, Idonije, etc. And yet he's a Cutler fluke injury and a tiebreaker away from having 3 straight 10 win seasons and 3 straight years in the playoffs.

Ultimately though, it came down to him not being able to get the offensive coordinator hire right. Best quote I read was, "Lovie hired 4 OCs in 9 years, he wasn't going to get a chance to hire a 5th". 4 OCs = 4 failures. None of them have been (or will be in Tice's case) NFL offensive coordinators after leaving the Bears.

Exactly. A team with Cutler, Forte, and Marshall should not have been at the bottom of the league in offense, bad OL or not.
