The Bears have asked GB for permission to interview Tom Clements.

Hell yes!

I read the Redskins weren't going to allow their assistants to. And I don't think teams generally pick and choose.

Packers have been in the playoffs a lot. Whats the precedence for them in the past? I know the blocked Clements before but that was just for O coordinator and I can't recall if they were out or not.

I think if interviewing for a promotion, the current team has to allow it.

During the Season

Teams may not interview assistants from another team for either a lateral move or a head coaching opportunity during the season. The lone exception to this rule comes when teams want to interview assistants for head coaching jobs while the current team is in the playoffs. As there is an urgency to hire new head coaches for some non-playoff teams, the NFL does allow teams to request permission to interview a postseason participant's assistants during the wild card week for teams who have the bye that week. They can also request permission to do so during the first week of Super Bowl preparations as long as there is a two-week break between the conference championships and the Super Bowl. The team only has one chance to talk to the assistant coach, once permission is granted, before the coach's team is eliminated from the playoffs.

January 13 - Assistant coaches under contract with playoff teams that won Wild Card games may be interviewed for head coaching positions through the conclusion of Divisional Playoff games.

So, worst case scenario is to interview him, we may have to wait out Green Bay's playoff run, right? If that IS the case, would we be willing to do that?

What's the deal with the anti Andy Reid feelings?

He's white Lovie. Offensive coach, gone thru many d coordinators. Hasn't won anything despite being mildly successful in the regular season. 1 SB appearance.

hey hey hey

He's also fat Lovie.

If he's a serious candidate, of course they will wait for GB's exit.

Why are people down on Chip Kelly? Personally, I'd love that hire.

All the experts claim the spread option wouldn't work in the NFL. But one thing that Kelly has shown is that he is an innovator. Why couldn't he adapt a system to the NFL. After all, he has shown the ability to be a visionary.

Emery acknowledged they may have to wait to interview some because of the playoffs, but he said in an ideal world, he'd like to have a coach for the "all star games".

The East-West game is on the 19th.

The Senior bowl is the 26th.

Personally, I'm not super keen on college coaches coming to the NFL. I know some have worked out recently, but I can't get over that mindset.

While I know they're probably more exception than the rule, doesn't New England kinda run a version of Kelly's offense already? Maybe not for entire games, but I'm pretty sure they basically run the same type of offense when they go to their hurry-up.

I'm not super keen on it if they are soley college coaches. If they have history in the NFL as an assistant coach I don't mind it.
