Atlanta sports talk is bringing up Dempster in a trade for Teheran, last year's #1 prospect in baseball. Would the Braves do that considering Demp is in the last year of his contract?

He hasn't been that impressive this year, but I can't imagine the Braves doing that. Maybe for Garza.

pretty sure the braves aren't that dumb

If the Braves ARE willing to do that, it'd give me serious pause, as they have always done a job identifying what pitchers are going to work and which aren't. That said, I seriously doubt this is anything more than a local guy, who knows nothing about prospects, taking the one name he knows and mentioning them.

If the Braves are interested in Dempster, i'd love to get Sean Gilmartin.

Like the Rays, the Braves never seem to have a shortage. I could see it happening with several prospects from each team switching sides.

Frank Wren isn't John Schuerholz.

He's still around, but the point is that "Atlanta was really good at identifying/trading prospects in the late 90s" is a prevailing thought that really isn't all that applicable. Obviously you would ask the question of why they might make Teheran available, but an inherent "don't trade with Atlanta, they don't misevaluate" is too much.

Talk is that Teheran or an upper level prospect is what the Cubs would want. The Braves' pitching prospects haven't been that fantastic and Teheran, while young, hasn't impressed yet. Demp plus LaHair for Teheran? The Braves will need an outfielder next year with Prado moving to third.

•The Braves have discussed using money budgeted for 2013 to make a trade this year according to MLB.com's Mark Bowman (on Twitter). Atlanta could be on the hunt for pitching with Brandon Beachy injured and Mike Minor/Randall Delgado experiencing growing pains.

If money is an issue for the Braves, Dempster is the perfect match, assuming that the Cubs are willing to pick up as much of Dempster's salary as necessary to get the best possible package.

I like Delgado a lot myself. If we could get him as the main piece in a Garza deal, with Gilmartin and another top 20ish prospect from them, I'd do it.

Toronto may need to trade for a pitcher just to field a rotation:

Toronto Blue Jays pitcher Henderson Alvarez left the game in the 6th inning due to an apparent back injury.

Toronto is getting to the point where they might have to trade for a guy just for the sake of eating innings and not to take the next step/keep contending. I wonder if they'd be interested in Maholm?

Thoughts on a Dempster deal with Lavarnway coming back?

talent-wise, it's a hell of a return. I'd venture to say our group would know as well as anyone if he can stick at catcher or not too. I wish they had pitching to deal though. Barnes is too much obviously and as much as I like Henry Owens, he's too far away.

Olney update.. Maybe we can package him and Dempster for a pretty good return?

Dodgers have scouted Bryan LaHair, and like other teams, they have concerns about defense. Maybe that won't matter, because they need help.

They should have concerns about his bat.

I've always figured the Cubs would try to get LaHair in any deal with Dempster. I don't think he brings back enough return on his own, and for the Dodgers, he could be an upgrade at LF or 1B for them, even if he doesn't go anywhere near April numbers again. And because he's cheap, if he doesn't hit there isn't much lost.
