Garrett Gould and Shawn Tolleson would be an excellent package, in my mind.

rotoworld is saying dodgers are looking to deal gould and lee to astros for lowrie, i think i would be fine with giving them dempster and barney for those 2, question is would they do it?

Probably going to have to throw in Lahair as well to sweeten the deal :good:

If they do that, I'd be hoping like hell for Eovaldi somehow. Webster, Sanchez, and Tolleson seems like a fair value for us. But Webster has really struggled bigtime this year. I'd roll the dice and deal for Rubby, even if he is coming off TJS. Seriously doubt they'd do it though.

Sidenote on Webster: Just looked at his stats for the first time in a month and they sent him to the pen. Put him back in the rotation, and in 5 starts has 28ip, 17h, 5r, 5er, 8w, and 21k. So maybe he's corrected something. If so, he's a very nice headliner in a Dempster trade.

If the Brewers were to go into full on sell mode they might be able to get a real solid package from the Dodgers for Greinke and Ramirez. As it seems they have no problem spending/taking on money and have a clear need for a bat and 3B is a black hole for them.

Rosenthal says Dodgers talks involve Carlos Lee, not Jed Lowrie. Seriously doubt Zach Lee is a part of THOSE talks. Honestly, kind of doubt Gould is either.

Looks like he might be back this weekend. I'd love for him to get a start in before the ASG.

Dempster feels good after another bullpen. If he still feels good tomorrow he'll try to convince the staff to let him pitch Sunday.

EDIT: Update

Paul Sullivan ‏@PWSullivan

Sveum said he'll consider starting Dempster on Sunday over Volstad. Decision on Friday.

My fear is he's rushing and might have a bad start that will make teams wonder about his health. Of course if he has a great/good start, that'd be great, but I'd have been fine waiting until after the break.

O's Have Contacted Astros About Wandy Rodriguez

By Mike Axisa [July 7 at 11:09am CST]

The Orioles are in the thick of the hunt for a postseason berth and are looking to shore up their starting rotation. Yesterday we learned that they were "going hard" after Zack Greinke, and today Roch Kubatko of MASNSports.com (on Twitter) reports they've contacted the Astros about Wandy Rodriguez. Kubatko says GM Dan Duquette is talking to a lot of teams at the moment.

We should try to get in on this. I'm not too sure about the O's system beyond Bundy and Machado, but if we could manage to get either Britton or Matusz in addition to a low level/high ceiling arm for Dempster, I'd be happy with it.

Not sure if I'm happier that Dempster is starting or the fact that Volstad isn't.

That's about as win/win as it gets!

Don't worry though, he'll get plenty of starts once Demps traded. =D>

Him or Casey Coleman.

Or both, once Garza is shipped off too. The reports that the Cubs haven't had real extension talks with him in months is pretty telling.

Wood/Samardzija (until he hits his innings limit)/Maholm/Volstad/Coleman and Rodrigo Lopez next in line.

I want to see Raley get some starts after the break.

I'm not all THAT high on him, but yeah, I agree with the idea. May as well get Rusin a few starts as well. If Maholm is traded, slot one in his place and give the other a few starts for Wood, if we need to manage his innings a bit.

I'm not really high on him either but I'd rather see him get some starts than Coleman. Plus, Shark isn't going to be starting the rest of the season if they're going to limit him to 170IP like they said on the broadcast today.

True. Makes sense. I kind of think Raley could surprise, but anything's better than trotting out Coleman. Hell, I'd say Volstad as well, but at least understand why the FO may want to give him more chances.

I figure we'll get 1, maybe 2 guys from our trade returns that slot in immediately.

Anybody we get from Garza/Dempster trades has to be better than Volstad and Coleman, even if they're 19 year old pitchers in A ball.

Not to be a downer, but while Dempster is having a career season vs. Ted Lilly who was having an average season when he was traded, will it be enough to convince other GMs to give us that much more for Dempster than we got for TRL? I'm aware that we have better guys running the show now, but I have a hard time believing that Hendry would have taken a pair of fringy relief prospects and a guy that the Dodgers were pretty much done with if he felt he could have had that much better. Was Wallach in the Dodgers top 10 at the time?

Yes.

Or for a more than one word answer: The trade target is having a much better season, is being traded by much better management, is playing under a CBA that makes for an extreme sellers market, and the most recent precedent(Lee) suggests that he will easily fetch more than flotsam. So, yes, yes, yes, yes.
