Because I enjoy this trade so much, now I start to expect that Cashner will fail his physical.

He'll fail his physical because they discover he has syphillis, which will be used as damning evidence in a sexual assault case.

Holy crap, Lahair is seriously going to be the starting 1B isn't he?

It'll probably be an open competition between Rizzo and LaHair in spring training. Rizzo will be our starting 1B by Aug 1st though.

Wow. Out of nowhere. I like it a LOT. My guess is now LaHair WILL begin the season as our opening day !B. But I love Rizzo.

Why wouldn't Rizzo? June at the latest.

To steal an extra year of team control out of him, rather than waste one on a lost season.

He's 22, and this team is terrible. There's no reason to even consider him on opening day. Why rush him? Let him solidify his abilities in Iowa and call him up in September unless he's absolutely destroying everything.

Where does Rizzo rank in top prospect lists? I know BA has him as the #1 Padres prospect, but have there been any top 100 lists released recently?

Rizzo is a top 40ish type guy right now.

He crushed the PCL last year. If he crushes the PCL this year for even a couple of months, there's no reason not to bring him up and let him start making adjustments to MLB pitching. Once a prospect's proven what he can do at a level, you don't want to stagnate him there.

September might be a little late. This would already be Rizzo's second option used up this year. I'd hate to only bring him up in September and still don't know if you have to use his final option next spring training.

it's kind of neat to see that all these deals have been strung together with a very particular idea. that the front office was able to accumulate and execute such a plan in the short amount of time they have had to evaluate their new team is impressive.

Agreed. Think about how much they've turned over the roster in just this offseason. We have a long ways to go and will probably be shitty in 2012, but think of how little value our crappy players had, and look what Jedstein was able to get from that. Long ways to go through. This move reaffirms my confidence in these guys.

And spending all year mashing pcl is a year of wasted development. Hold a couple months to ensure hes not a super two, but he might as well be here if he's ready.

Did I not write "unless he's absolutely destroying everything"? If the mashing continues then bring him up in June. Otherwise there's no rush.

Not on opening day, which was the entire damn point.

Another fantastic trade. The Cubs keep accumulating players that are younger and/or higher ceiling.

It's not going to be this offseason, but sometime soon Theo and co. will be in great shape to trade for the nearing-free-agency superstar guys that the small-market teams can't afford to keep. Call it phase 2 of the rebuild.

Carlos Zambrano will be given every opportunity to prove himself.

Brian LaHair is our 1st baseman.

Can I get a we have no intention of trading for Felix Hernandez?

Can't complain about this move.

He's also said repeatedly how good of a guy Crane Kenney is.
