MLBTR and Bruce Miles are confirming the deal.

Well that was sudden. If we weren't going to use Cashner as anything but a reliever, then this is a great deal. I don't agree with that decision, but I guess I have to trust those in charge in that regard.

i love the crap out of this deal, actually. Cashner has a chance, but i'll take a humongous star potential everyday player over a pitcher in limbo with great stuff but has already been injured too often

Agreed although I'd like to hear what people think of Cates.

I enjoy this trade.

I have to admit that I was really worried Cash wasn't going to ever be able to log the innings of a starter. That was just a feeling, though. No numbers to support that. Other than him missing most of last year with an arm injury.

I think that's how I feel about it as well. A poor man's version of my Tex over Prior opinion.

my first reaction is that i have no idea how to value cashner. it seems like he was probably going to just get stuck in the bullpen or something. i guess we would've been in a good position to take the time and stretch him out to start, but i really don't know how likely that would be. is there any reason to think it would've been a good idea to let him throw more than like 120-140 innings this year?

i think i am okay with this.

This sums up my thoughts well. And since reading about Rizzo I've been a big fan of bringing him aboard.

Wow...will he start the season on the Cubs? Or will they seriously give LaHair a look and try to cut a year off his arb years?

Cates received the largest 3rd round bonus in the 2010 draft. Didn't move to the mound full-time until the 2010 college season.
